I can definitely understand getting bored/complacent at times.  I know the teams in 80’s mailed it in a lot of the time for parts of games.
What concerns me most is the inability of this team to ratchet it up when they need to in order to win winnable games or to crush teams when they go up high double-digits.  This team should be able to push a 15 point lead to 25, and should be able  to turn up the heat at the end of games - not to close the gap and lose or force OT - but to win comfortably by 5-10 points when they’ve been trailing in the 4th.

This team worries me.

Was hoping to hear a story about how Brown stayed late to shoot FT, but instead we get this.

That hot start was the worst thing that could've happened to this team. Went to their heads.

Oh boy. The worst thing that could have happened is that they won a lot of games?

The winning was good of course, but the way they won I don't think helped. Lots of 3's and that has led them to settle into bad habits.
That's what I was meaning by saying it might have not helped in the long run.

It's brad ball on steroids.

I get angryguy's point.  The early wins did come pretty easily.  We settled into some bad habits as a result.  I wouldn't go as far as saying "worst thing that could have happened" but it may have masked some underlying weakness that is now getting exposed against teams like the Knicks.

So they are trying to identify what one of the issues are right now and are open about it, and that is the problem?

The funny thing is if this was a team that had already won a title, it would be looked at as "the regular season doesn't mean as much to them because of their experience, and it is ok"

Yeah true, maybe we were better off starting 25-25 and being a 7 seed right now  ::)

I think it's natural for many teams to become complacent, especially as they're dealing with injuries or are simply tired.  But, it's certainly not a best practice.  It's what separates a team that wins 50-ish games from a team that wins 60.

Pretty much.

I can understand the dog days of the season.  Tough to get up for every game or a perceived lesser opponent.  Even happened during the new Big Three era.

Ideally, I just don't want it to cost them seeding but I understand it.

Yes, a lot of players, current and retired, have talked about the toughest part of the season to maintain intensity is between Christmas and the All-Star game.  The trade deadline naturally contributes to that, as players wonder if their teams or roles will change.  I also wouldn’t be surprised if the lack of daylight has an impact too.  Their sleep cycle probably has them waking around noon to peak for a 7pm game — with the sun disappearing at 4-5, it can naturally sap people’s energy and focus.

Brown recognizing an issue, his part in it, and saying that he (and the team as a whole) need to do better is a weird thing to be mad about

I blame this mindset on Kyrie and Tristan's Thompson tenure on the team.   You know the regular season does not matter, we can turn it on in the playoffs mindset.

I could be way off, just a hunch.

It would be ok in a sense because they would've proved themselves. If the GSW make a run and win it again, I don't think anyone would be that shocked given their pedigree.

Being bored after getting bounced in the finals is not a good look. These guys, fair or not, are going to be judged by the standard set by past great celtic teams.

Win a title, then play a game left handed....

Oh that is rich. You’re leading the league in unsubstantiated claims, yet talk is cheap. Brown is being honest, and you’re taking that as an opportunity to criticize the team. I don’t understand why players even try to answer questions truthfully. I’d treat every reporter like Marshawn Lynch if this is what people do to their answers.

Right? Also if Jaylen did stay after the game and shoot like 100 FTs and had it recorded on video, I'm sure there'd be people complaining that he's "making it about himself" and doing it for "social media clout"

Can't win with some people  :P

No one's perfect. Jaylen has his limitations too, and he had a tough moment there. So does everyone else at different moments (Giannis, Lebron, etc.)

I don't see what all the hoopla is all about. Teams often get bored during the season, there isn't anything novel about this.

Problem is Larry Bird is not walking to the court shooting lefty.
