Just looking at the standings, the only teams out of the playoff race are; Houston, San Antonio, Detroit, Charlotte & Orlando.

Without trading away their core players, the Celtics have about 10 million in tradeable salaries to go with picks.

For me, there are only two gettable players worth trading for; Mo Bamba & Zach Collins.

The Boston Celtics are expected to "scan the league for another big man" ahead of the Feb. 9 trade deadline, according to Jay King of The Athletic.

King listed Mason Plumlee, Jae'Sean Tate, P.J. Washington, Kelly Olynyk and Chris Boucher as potential options to shore up the frontcourt.

Shams Charania of The Athletic previously reported the Celtics were among the teams that have showed "significant trade interest" in San Antonio Spurs center Jakob Poeltl.

PJ is having a career year and would just be a rental.  I'm not sure what Charlotte would want but he is a good player and fits into the TPE.

Boucher would be another good get.  He's signed for 2 more years and can fill in for Al and Rob.  Wonder what that would cost the C's.  12.6 in salary this year.  He's not a great 3pt shooter but will take them and can hit some.

You posted about the possible availability of Jarred Vanderbilt. I would be happy with him or Zach Collins.

If the report is true, I’m surprised that Ainge would be willing to trade Jarred Vanderbilt so cheaply given his age and cost of contract.

The problem with Vanderbilt is that he’s not what the Celtics need (in the immediate future at least). He’s not a rim protector, he can’t shoot consistently, and he struggles from the line.

He's a good rebounder and defensive player role player that could be a minutes eater as a swing/big and a hedge against GW getting a big offer in RFA.

He's not a world beater by any means but is you can get him for 2 seconds or something similar he'd be a good get. A 1st or it's equivalent (for example PP) would be a high price though. I could see PP to Utah with a second that was projected in the 30s-40s coming back as fair value.

Vanderbilt's advanced rebounding stats are very good but his defensive net rating is the worst on the Jazz, by quite a bit (118.4).  I was surprise by this.  I would have expected he was a good defender based on reputation.  His Def Rating last season with MIN was 8th on the team (again sorted for >10 min per game).  Also towards the bottom for the team.

I am not familiar enough with his game to be able to say what this means.  Maybe he misses assignments or something.  He doesn't get that many blocks or steals either.  It could be that his defense just isn't as good as you would expect.

Per BB reference both his O and D box +/- are net positive. Not a world beater but not a liability either, +1.6 overall. They also have him a def rating of 112 this season.

Plumlee would be such a dream. I've wanted him for years. He is a terrific passer, good rebounder and solid defensively. Sure, he's an expiring, but I'm very high on his fit

Him or PJ Washington would be nice.

Tony Snell to the Maine Celtics? Surely he is better than Justin Jackson? What happened to him?

I saw that Anunoby didn't play last night and that he is reported out "for the road trip" due to something with his wrist.  Interesting timing.  Not sure if them playing it safe because they are close to a deal or if this will attach a warning flag to him and maybe lower his value a little.

The other thing I am finding interesting is that the GSW seem to have James Wiseman on the market.  I am not sure what happened to him.  What little I have seen of him, he looked really promising to me.  Had the body, the athleticism, seemed to have decent court awareness and anticipation/reaction, plus had some mid-range touch.  He is still only 21 (22 in March).  What happened?

I think part of the issue for GSW is that he will be at about $12M (plus tax) next season.  I don't know exactly how the tax works but I am guessing it is very sizable premium on top of the salary.  I have to think this is about money for them.  Gallinari and Jackson would work.  Saves a little for them this season and half the salary for next season.  Gallinari might be a nice piece for their bench.  And he could probably be "flipped" if they want to cut salary even more for next season.

I wonder if the two finalist from the prior season have ever done a trade the following season.

I don’t know about Wiseman’s potential as he’s barely played, but Kabengele kicked his butt when I watched them play this past summer league.  That was more of knock on Wiseman than a positive for Kabengele.
