Truly baffles me anyone still wants him

Guy is a loser. Just wait until the Spring and playoffs, he'll probably get hurt or throw a tantrum at someone

Even with the Nets on a roll, I still think Kyrie and Simmons are gonna find a way to ruin it for them late in the year and during the playoffs.

Why?

Sure his ability to defend would help.   His ability to push the ball and pass in transition would help.

But his refusal to take open shots created by the ball movement would hurt the team more then it helps.   Even Kornet will take that shot.

I commented earlier in the Nets - Celtics game thread that Simmons would be a top ten guy if his father didn’t get him to change shooting hands in his youth…but even I wouldn’t trade for him.

Because of a complete breakdown in his shooting mechanics, Simmons has lost all confidence.

Lots of NBA players have poor shooting mechanics, but they make it work, Simmons however seems to have major stage fright on the court.

Something that I can’t understand is why Simmons gets so much universal hate.

He doesn’t flop, works his ass off on defence, crashes the boards and isn’t selfish on the ball.

From what I can gather, he seems very family oriented and I’m yet to see him get in trouble off the court.

Hmmm....idk....Munchos are way under-rated

But, seriously, how far down the rotation do you need to go before u would consider a straight swap? Ignoring trade logistics and money.

Horford, maybe not
White, maybe
Brogdon, prolly not
Grant, prolly

it'd be a straight "not" on all 4 of them.  Kornet either.  probably not Blake nor PP.  only Yes that springs to mind is Jackson.

someone on this forum said they would still take simmons over brown in a redraft this past summer. Glad they have finally come to their senses. It was the final domino

From what I can gather, he seems very family oriented and I’m yet to see him get in trouble off the court.

He's a former first overall pick who had legitimate best-player-in-the-world potential.  Instead, he has actually regressed since he entered the league.  He came up small for the Sixers in the playoffs and then quit when he was criticized for it.

Now he's making $110M+ over the next three seasons to score zero points on 0-3 shooting, right after the Nets' best player went down.  They need guys to step up yet he's still scared to look at the rim.  He's unplayable in the fourth quarter because of his inability to hit foul shots and the timidity in his game that stems from that.

He can do a lot of things as a glue guy, but most glue guys don't make almost $40M per year.  I don't literally hate the guy.  But I sure as hell don't want him on my team at that number.

Well said. The other problem that goes along with his unwillingness to work on his game is his athleticism is going to start to decline. He is making zero adjustments for that.

did they though?  I know one poster who fits that description but I don't think they've ever admitted to being wrong about anything.  could be the same poster, could be someone different.

What's weird about Simmons is that he came up through a system that is exceptionally great at weeding guys like him out.

At each level, he's faced other guys who were intensely competitive, and would claw his eyes out to get ahead of him. Talent without competitiveness will lose every time. The only explanation is that he may have always had some problems. but they have expanded considerably as time has gone on.

If he was making 8-9 million a year as your 5th starter or 6th man he'd be praised but he's getting star money and he's not living up to that contract. He's also the Number one pick.

I can only speak for myself in that as a person, I feel bad for him.  I think he has legitimate mental health issues.  He does appear to me to play hard.  To get where he is, I am sure he has worked hard off the court also.  I have no issue with any of that.  But until he solves his yips problem, I don't want him on the Celtics.  He is grossly overpaid for what he can produce on the court at the current time

The contrast is actually really stunning.  The way he can move on the court, handle the ball, he is as smooth and athletic and skilled as anyone in the NBA.  But then when he picks up the ball and tries to shoot, he has an absolute mental block and he looks like when a punter tries to throw a pass in the NFL.  It is sad really but until he solves it, his value as an NBA player will be extremely limited.
