I'd have no problem with this if it was on a b2b, but load management isn't necessary when you have off-days. The Cs don't even play again until Wednesday. I guess it's essentially a 2nd All-Star break with only one game for him in a week.

Dude should have had the party on Saturday. I mean, Deuce was born on 12/6 anyway, so it's not like having it on the 12/18 was so essential. Maybe Tatum thought this was a guaranteed W against a cellar dweller at home, but that probably wasn't a chance worth taking. And looks even worse in hindsight with the loss.

Eh.  I'm sure this was requested months ahead of time.  Blame the Celts for granting the request if it's a problem.  I'm not going to begrudge a guy a day off that the team gave him.  Maybe the team thought that four straight days off would be more beneficial for Tatum's recovery than one night on a B2B?

Get back and dribble! No days off! Jeesh, it’s one game. As always, we don’t know the whole story and maybe it’s not worth judging little things as if they were big things. Or maybe it is- this is the internet, where we all get to lose our minds all the time.

Oh, I definitely blame the team for granting it to him. It was two weeks after Deuce's real birthday, so it's not like the date really mattered.

That's the problem with granting days off so far ahead of time. Who knew we would be coming off of a loss against the lowly Magic and the team would be spiraling? In this case, we REALLY needed Tatum and that decision definitely proved to be the wrong one. There are instances when players do need time off and I also generally favor load management for players who need it. This seemed like neither of those instances.

I can't find the stat now, but I believe Tatum has played more minutes in the NBA than anyone else over the last 4 years. That's anyone else in the league. He's played MVP caliber basketball this season and always guts it out. If he asked for a day off against the Magic in December and the team was ok with it, I'm ok with it too.

If that is the case and they knew it months ago the people buying tickets should have been advised of it. To me that is the bigger problem especially it being a day weekend home game . What about kids that parents bought tickets to come see the teams star play? One thing I respected Kobe was when he made a statement to that and why he didnt take games off when he wasn't hurt.

If this "personal" day off is, in fact, so he could be at home all day for his son's birthday ...................

1) he should never have been given a day off for something so ridiculous ....
2) he should have never asked for a day off for something so ridiculous.....
3) if true and the team approved it, and worse, Tatum thought this was a good idea ..

then I am stunned.

Surely, there is a whole lot more to this than his kid's birthday party. That's not even a reason.
I'll withhold final judgement until I hear the full story. Even soft, sensitive Jason would not pull a stunt like this.
More of a story you might read about Crazy Kyrie, not one of these current Celtics. Please tell me No.
He's soft and sensitive, yet you're the one throwing the tantrum about a guy having a day off. What does that make you?

A person with common sense who understands what is the right and the wrong thing to do as part of a team sport.

I didn't say a birthday is a ridiculous thing. Sitting out a game for a birthday is what is ridiculous.

Tatum has played over 1000 more than the next highest player over the past two seasons, playoffs included.

I posted earlier he's currently 2nd in mpg and 3rd in total overall minutes played. I think the reason people are bent out of shape is because it's for the reason - a kid's birthday. I'm sure if the reason was" "we've decided to sit JT out of the Orlando game because he was feeling a little sore" the outcry would not have been anywhere near as much. Maybe it's because we, in our pedestrian day jobs, can't afford to take a day off work for a kid's birthday and so we begrudge those who do

Edit: My bad, now I see OP was for the Orlando game. Had me confused since it was discussed during the week.

If JT wants a day off for Deuce and it’s against one of the worst teams in the year, you grant him his wish because benefits like that  may pay huge dividends when his contract is up. The fact we lost to Orlando is on JB, who clearly will never be a top guy on a team considering we generally range from stench to mediocre when JT is out and JB is healthy (whereas we still tend to win when JT is healthy and JB is out).

What a bunch of garbage !  I hope JB remains a Celtic for his entire career.  Did JB not sign an autograph for you or something?

My guess is the team approached Tatum about having a load management game - probably earlier in the season during a back to back - but Tatum “traded” that game for the Orlando game.

There is no way I think Tatum would be selfish and just ask for a day off without the team encouraging it. He wants to win the title badly.

He’s just fishing for bites with JB bait now  :police: he knows it works, that’s why he brings JB up in every post he makes
