I wonder what if anything he has added to his game from the summer?

He didn't go under the knife again till training camp, perhaps he's added a 15-17ft jumper or a little confidence in attacking the basket off a dribble or two?

Prolly wishful thinking....but he's a worker, would be surprised if he didn't try to add to his game. Sign me up for a jumpshot that starts to become more regular and consistent by all star break  ???

He has a jumper but rarely shoots it.

It is hard to follow the numbers but I think the bottom line or your point is that Kornet/Vonleh/Griffin are giving us about 6/6 while RWill gave us about 7/7.  You adjusted this per 21.9 minutes though which distorts the absolute value of the stats some.

RWill is a starting level center and if he is back at full or near full strength, he is going to give us quite a bit more in his 20 minutes then we are ever going to get from Kornet et al if they were to play for 20 min.  It will also allow Grant to play off the bench where he is much better.

The question is of course whether or not it is expected that RWill will be back at full or near full strength, and if so, for how long.  There is just no way to know how his knee is going to hold up.  If it does hold up, we have seen what he can do and what he brings to the team and it is a lot more than what we have been getting out of the committee of back ups.

For this season, just a return to form would be really nice.  I would also love for him to remain healthy the remainder of the season thru the playoffs.  That might be wishful thinking.

Any real growth this season would be a welcome added bonus in my book.

This. If we get a return to form and remain healthy, I would consider it a major victory.

If Rob can play like last year, but 22 mpg, I'm happy.
Its already an upgrade. The numbers don't suggest a drop off in offense, and they do suggest an upgrade on defense.
Rob, won't play every game, but he will probably play more than 22 mpg when he's available.
Anything over the 21.9 mpg is good. Al plays less, Grant comes off the bench, Vonleh is relegated to garbage time.

OK, I see.  Your point was that the offense is not going to diminish.  I agree with that for sure.  In fact, I think it gets a little better, just by RWill being on the floor.  Even if he isn't the one scoring.  But he will score, he will get his alley oops and his put backs.  That is all we need.  Everything just seems to flow better when he is in.

And that is the actual reality.  Horford and Grant are going to play the same amount, maybe a little less, but mostly, this is about more RWill and less Kornet or Vonleh or Griffin.  That is a meaningful upgrade.  From a fringe NBA player (any of the 3) to an All Defense contender.

Yes
And the point of the 22 mpg is that is all he needs to do to be an upgrade.
I'm not expecting 30+ minutes a night. Build up to that for the playoffs.

I missed last night’s game, but Williams sure looks good in these highlights from the game.

I didn't mean of the center spot, I meant of the team overall.  Williams stays in the post more and doesn't provide the spacing, I think the offense will take a step back overall with Rob, but the improvement from the defense and rebounding will overall make Boston better.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I would point out that those numbers may appear close enough at a glance, but they really aren't. Rob adds 15%+ shooting pct, 0.3 APG (which understates the difference as a passer), 0.4 more steals, 0.5 BPG, 0.4 less turnovers and 1.8 less fouls to the extra point and extra rebound you get every 22 minutes. The bottom line difference is pretty large for less than 1/2 of the minutes for one position.  That, in addition to the single biggest factor, the additional defensive impact.

If every position could be improved by that much, we'd be winning by another 20 points per game or so.

I expect that once he's up to game speed, he'll be the dominant defensive force we're familiar with, and a great asset on offense, particularly with his screens and his lob finishes.

That said, I also expect that he'll get hurt again before the season's over.
