A minor oversight… lol.

Hauser’s a great shooter and has played solid defense; he’s so dangerous when given space and will continue to open the floor for Brogdon and other drivers. Him and Grant in each corner or on one side will continue to torture opposing defenses.

His lack of minutes is one adjustment that can be made this early into the season. It shouldn’t take a back to back for him to get 20+ minutes.

He can be our Joe Harris.

Harris is another UVa player, like Brogdon and Hauser.

Anthony Gill who is now starting for the Wizards is another. Along with DeAndre Hunter for the Hawks.  And Trey Murphy for the Pels.

He’s not even leading the team in FG% or 3PT%, Lol. Grant is.  :blank:

Justin Jackson is leading in 3PT%. ;)

But, I'm pretty sure Hauser is leading Grant as of this moment.  Hauser is up to 56.7%.  Grant is down to 52.0%
What a scrub

Yep.  Bricklayer.
Yup. Stevens should have dumped him summer 2021 like everyone on this site said to. What a horrible player. Can't believe he's still in the league.

Bird played at a different time where the three was not emphasized as much.     He would have shot circles around Sam.

Are all the Hauser Haters from last year and the Summer league going to fess up?

Who are you kidding?   The last few games he has had 17, 8, 0, 9 and 5 points.   He is all over the place, Liam, but he is not excused from Summer League.

He has shot well for sure.   He had a great game tonight but he can't play D, when his shot is falling he is not worthless.

I am glad he had a good game BTW we need shooting and offense and I hope he works on his D.

His defense hasn’t been Duncan Robinson bad, at least. If Hauser can become an average defender and shoot 50+% from 3pt, I can live with that. Also needs to develop the ability to shoot off screens. Right now he’s standstill catch and shoot only. It’s obviously a very small sample size, but he’s been better than I thought he’d be.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

When he has an opportunity to shoot it’s been falling consistently. He can’t shoot if they don’t pass it to him or if he’s on the bench. The problems are all on the other end.

Locked on a team-friendly contract till 2025. :)

The NBA has changed a lot in the last decade or so. Any shooter 6'5'' or taller is probably a playable option, regardless of how one-dimentional his game may be. It shouldn't be too hard to find more players like Hauser.

Tatum + Brown + reliable PnR ball handler + reliable screener/roller + role players in the mold of Hauser or Grant = contending team

Wrong
He's a decent team defender, but he's nowhere near mobile enough to stay in front of explosive opponents on the perimeter after switches. He's not strong enough to hold his own against slashing bigs either. I remember one play where Randle bullied his way to the basket like Hauser wasn't even there. The advanced stats suggest he's a negative defender.

DBPM: -0.8
defensive RAPTOR: -0.1

Obviously, he's a net positive by a wide margin cause he's an elite floor spacer.

OBPM: +5.9
offensive RAPTOR: +5.6

The sample size is small, but you get the idea. We don't have access to EPM yet cause it's too early into the season.

the bolded part of the analysis is where i am after watching hauser in the short minutes he has played.

on defense, against bench players, i think he is generally adequate on defense. he tries hard and he seems to be in the right place on defense.

hauser is NOT a turnstile, chair, or matador on defense.

but what he does well, he seems to be doing very well - shoot 3 pointers and do so with a very quick release. once other defenses catch on to his shooting they will have to put a defender on him. fine! that is one less man to double team the Js or other players.

to be honest, i thought hauser was a scrub. but maybe not. still early in his career.

out of curiousity i looked at the stats for both hauser and strus. sturs is 2 years old, so i compared only the stats for the first two years of each player.

the numbers have a really sss, but they were very similar across the board...except hauser was the better 3 point shooter.

maybe hauser will prove to be similar or better than strus? we can all hope and have another glass of kool aid.

He'll always be hunted by quick ballhandlers but because of his size, if he can learn where he's supposed to be, he'll never be truly unplayable on defense. That is, as long as he continues to be a sniper on offense.

Here's a fun stat: Hauser has attempted 35 shots this season and 31 of them have been 3's.
1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1974, 1976, 1981, 1984, 1986, 2008, 2024

One more Hauser stat, from Jay King: “The Celtics have blasted defenses during his minutes, scoring 127.9 points per 100 possessions.” When he has a clean look the ball goes up and in. When he isn’t shooting, he’s smart about looking for open space and his defender always has to worry about leaving him open - which opens room for Brogdon, Tatum, or whatever creator is in the game with him.
