Hypothetically if Joe Mazzulla underwhelms this season (something I hope doesn’t happen), what would be the Celtics best course of action?

IMO, I can’t fathom how Udoka returns after his ban. Given how talented the Celtics roster is, I’d imagine it would be a very attractive job vacancy.

Who should coach the Celtics in this situation?

Good start from Joe and I like him.  I hope to see him get the job permanently and remove the acting coach designation.

Haha understandable statement.

I’m just curious as Mazzulla is still a ‘temporary’ HC and like I stated in my OP, the job would be highly sought after if ownership decided to look to the opening market.

It's hard to answer the question with an entire season still ahead. That's a year of experiences and results for some possible candidates. Unless some of the ones being considered are currently unemployed.

What do you believe is the minimum performance for him to retain the job?

Wyc and Brad don’t strike me as the type of guys who hire and fire based on some minimum criteria or number of wins…I think it would be based more on how he and the team adapt to each other and whether the team responds to him. Because if that is happening the results will come. It’s not going to be “if you don’t win 50 games you’re outl” - it’s a results oriented business but you would look at some qualitative things as well as the actual results. Like in a normal managerial job…you don’t necessarily get fired if your sales target was a million and you missed it, if they like how you do your job and mange your people you will be given an opportunity to be successful.

If he makes the playoffs and we see the team playing the type of ball they did last year I think he will be safe as the team coach for the next few years at least.

If the team keeps this up, he’s going to become the permanent coach and we are going to win banner 18. I highly doubt Udoka is ever going to coach this franchise again. Our coach next year will be Mazz or Stevens.

If there have been any subtle indications that Brad Stevens wants to be the next head coach of the Celtics, I haven’t seen them.  Many, many people in their careers move on from an ‘in the trenches’ role to a different role, often administrative - and they never look back.  Brad’s current role is lucrative, possibly very satisfying, and probably a good deal less stressful than being an NBA head coach. And far less travel….  It wouldn’t surprise me even a little if he has zero desire to go back.

If the team keeps up this hot pace he is going to be the head coach for years. If Celtics go back to Ime some team will poach him. But I never saw Ime coming back. His suspension was to broker a negotiation to let him go.

Now this might be an overreaction but this shows how much we maybe overrated Ime and underrated how important talent is in this league.

After all the hand wringing about losing Ime we would take a step back, Celtics look like they haven't missed a beat.

He keeps insisting a guy who has said he's no longer interested in coaching because of the time away from his family and who is enjoying his front office role would make an about face and get back in the cauldron. There's a better chance of Greenly swimming naked across the Charles River in winter than in Brad going back to coaching.
