Hey guys,

So I was just looking at ticket prices for a handful of upcoming games. I know obviously a lot depends on opponent, day of week, time, etc. But it feels to me like ticket prices are more expensive than before? Does anyone else feel this way?

For example, I remember in the past being able to get tickets in the balcony seats at TD Garden for as cheap as $20-35, sometimes even on Friday night games against pretty good teams. Now it feels like the cheapest there is $50+ for those same seats, very last row in the back. Loge seats I know could be $50-60+ at the cheapest, but now a lot of them are $75-80+ at minimum.

And outside of maybe 1 or 2 games (like Pistons and Thunder in November) even a lot of weekday games against bad teams are more expensive than previous years it seems.

The team is still sizzling hot in terms of appeal from their Finals run, probably has a lot to do with it.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

I don't know about face, but I'm sure ticket resellers are asking for more.  The Celtics are a hot team -- meaning that there's more demand -- and resellers are getting pinched by inflation, so they're marking up their prices more than usual.

I wish I could get tickets for $50. I was just looking in Orlando for tomorrow night's game and the cheapest tickets are $90! I typically go to a couple of games per year for under $20 easily - often times, sitting right up at the front of the balcony. I guess Paolo-fever and the Cs being as good as they are, as well as it being the home opener for the Magic is spiking ticket prices. Bad timing, I guess.

I guess. I use Vividseats usually. My friend recently bought tickets from a site called "Tickpick" which has no fees but their face value price is usually $20-40 more than the ones listed in other sites (probably accounting for the fees anyways). But for the most part a lot of the price ranges are similar, and pretty expensive.

I also notice this is true with the Bruins tickets too this season. A little more expensive than usual

Season ticket holders prices went up around 8% on average, the increase actually happened while the team was somewhat struggling last season, but strategically came after that first 9 or so game win streak to start the year.
Needless to say a lot of STMs at the time were pretty ticked off that they had an increase seeing the team underperformed for essentially the first half of the year last year.

In terms of demand and prices right now, I mean they just came off of a NBA finals, of course interest is going to increase the year following. There was a pretty big drop after the Ime scandal but before that prices, especially in the secondary market, were astronomical.

Prices raised for STMs about 10%. Face value for cheap loge seats is over $100 per game, on average. Anything less is a pretty substantial loss.

Oh dang...  :-\

Just curious but those who aren't season ticket members, what site do you usually use to purchase tickets?

The better question is what is not more expensive than before?

What happens when trillions are just given to hundreds of thousands of businesses to not produce goods/services for months on end? And multiple “stimulus checks” are simultaneously handed out to every taxpayer regardless of need, with none of it paid for by increasing taxes on those most comfortable? The answer is 2020-present. It just took 1-1.5 years for the inflation to kick-in, but all of this is because of 2020. This is the hangover. And the Fed obviously not raising rates high enough and/or fast enough—they let a punch bowl sit out at the party far too long. But it’s hard to fault the Fed given the fiscal policy of 2020. And perhaps this truly is the best outcome we could have possibly had in the wake of a pandemic, particularly with a president in charge who seemingly had no control over anything in 2020. It’s easy to Monday morning QB this stuff. In any case, the Feds need to raise the overnight rate more and banks need to start upping the rates on savings accounts so that they exceed inflation. The money supply needs to be dramatically contracted ASAP or we’re just going to have even more pain down the road to finally tame the inflation beast. Perhaps after the election they’ll start to do shock and awe therapy? They need to show the world who is in charge, just like Volcker did in the late 70s/early 80s. After that pain, we can finally get back to normalcy.
