Lillard seems a bit delusional… ???

Lillard considers the uncertainty from both angles, the good and the bad. “Then you look at Phoenix,” he said. “They lose a championship [2021], come back next year, have another great season, then they don’t make it out of the playoffs. Now, they’re struggling. They’re in the same boat as us. Boston lost last year, then they come out on fire, what if they come up short? What if somebody knocks them off in the first round or the second round after this great season? We’re struggling right now, but what if we hit our stride at the right time?”  – via Baxter Holmes @ ESPN

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

The Clippers are now 11-24 against teams .500 or better.

The only Western Conference teams with a worse mark are the Rockets and Spurs.

That is an interesting tweet & stat.

That has got to worry Clippers fans. 3rd worst mark in the league against average & above average teams. Only two worse are two of the worst teams in the league.

Those fans probably still have room for optimism.

By my quick count:

7 of those L's they were missing both Kawhi and PG
6 of those L's they were missing Kawhi only
2 of those L's they were missing PG only
1 of those L's came when Kawhi was coming off the bench and on a minutes restriction

In games when both George and Kawhi are available for the whole game, they're a much more palatable 7-8 against teams .500 or better.
Nuggets are 20-10, Grizz are 15-15 and Mavs are 16-15.  Everybody else in the West is below .500 against teams .500 or better.

In the East Bucks are 21-10, Celts 20-11, Sixers 19-10 and Hawks 16-16 with everyone else below .500.

If I had to make Lillard's point for him, I'd say "Look at where Phoenix was prior to their run to the Finals.  Look at where Boston was.  Those teams were treading water, until things clicked for them.  We've got the talent on this team to beat any team, we just need to put it all together like those other teams did."

No player is untradeable in the NBA, but I'm curious what assets they'd have to attach to get another team to take Simmons.  $78 million over two years is a lot of cheddar.

They don’t, though. At least, I don’t think so. 2 games under .500, they will be lucky to make the Play-in.

Ben will be happier when he is retired I hope. He really doesn’t seem to like nba basketball. He is gonna end up playing 15 games across two years. This reminds me of leveon bells career.

Ah, that is cool numbers. Okay so take out 7 wins for neither and 6 for Kawhi and then they are 13-13 against .500 or better. That is pretty solid. Not impressive but solid.

I keep coming back to the Spurs. Maybe Pop can put Humpty Dumpty back together again.

I think there is a pretty good chance pops retires after the season.

I think that’s likely too.  He’s in his last year under contract, and I think he’s ready to move on.

No player is untradeable in the NBA, but I'm curious what assets they'd have to attach to get another team to take Simmons.  $78 million over two years is a lot of cheddar.

I think to Charlotte for Hayward’s expiring is their best chance to move him asset-free.

No way they would have to attach at least a first rounder. Maybe two. Why would Charlotte take on multiple years of massive dead money for an expiring? Expiring contract is actually an asset

Are they just relying upon MJ's stupidity there?  Hayward has negative value except as an expiring contract, but Simmons has to have extreme negative value, right?  Simmons is still young and has accolades in his past, but he's also a malingerer who ahas a bad back and who has focus issues (to be kind).
