I wonder which side is currently more unhappy with the CBA, and what the biggest issues are (outside of the revenue split).

Owners, I think. From what I've read, its an upper spending limit.

That would be good for the game.  Sounds like the owners may give up that demand if it brings labor peace:

In a perfect world, teams would be able to make deadline trades with full understanding of league's future economic structure, but sources say NBA has shown a willingness to step back from its initial push for an upper spending limit on payrolls to get an early labor deal done.

In the other words, small market teams care more about not killing their golden goose than they do about competitive balance.

small market teams also often go well into the luxury tax.  If you look at the list of tax paying teams every year it is a pretty even mix of large and small market.  Or at least it has been for most of the CBA.

Small market teams occasionally go into the tax, but very rarely do they live there like the richest franchises:

Quote
1) Golden State Warriors: $337,841,573 (5 years)

2) Brooklyn/New Jersey Nets: $297,855,872 (7 years)

3) New York Knicks: $248,542,987 (10 years)

4) Cleveland Cavaliers: $179,622,897 (7 years)

5) L.A. Lakers: $171,795,994 (11 years)

6) Dallas Mavericks: $150,530,433 (9 years)

7) L.A. Clippers: $117,898,859 (6 years)

Cleveland is a bit of an outlier, but 1.  they had Lebron when they were spending; and 2.  Dan Gilbert is the second richest owner in the NBA.  Everybody else is near the top of the NBA in market size.

The Thunder paid the tax for multiple seasons

Here is a link of every tax paying team from the 14/15 season through the 18/19 season

https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2019/04/recent-history-of-nba-taxpaying-teams.html#:~:text=Recent%20History%20Of%20NBA%20Taxpaying%20Teams%201%202018%2F19,2014%2F15%20Brooklyn%20Nets%20%28%2420MM%29%20Cleveland%20Cavaliers%20%28%247MM%29%20

2018/19
Oklahoma City Thunder: $61.6MM
Golden State Warriors: $51.5MM
Toronto Raptors: $21.4MM
Portland Trail Blazers: $15.1MM
Boston Celtics: $3.9MM
Total: $153.5MM
Note: This season’s figures are still subject to change, based on postseason-related contract incentives.

2017/18
Cleveland Cavaliers ($50.7MM)
Golden State Warriors ($32.3MM)
Oklahoma City Thunder ($25.4MM)
Washington Wizards ($7MM)
Total: $115.4MM

2016/17
Cleveland Cavaliers ($24.8MM)
Los Angeles Clippers ($3.6MM)
Total: $28.4MM

2015/16
Cleveland Cavaliers ($54MM)
Los Angeles Clippers ($19.9MM)
Golden State Warriors ($14.8MM)
Oklahoma City Thunder ($14.5MM)
Houston Rockets ($4.9MM)
San Antonio Spurs ($4.9MM)
Chicago Bulls ($4.2MM)
Total: $117.2MM

2014/15
Brooklyn Nets ($20MM)
Cleveland Cavaliers ($7MM)
New York Knicks ($6.9MM)
Los Angeles Clippers ($4.8MM)
Oklahoma City Thunder ($2.8MM)
Total: $41.5MM

So that is a 5 year period here are the total number of years teams paid the tax during that stretch

Cleveland - 4
Golden State - 3
Oklahoma City - 3
LA Clippers - 3
New York - 1
Brooklyn - 1
Chicago - 1
San Antonio - 1
Houston - 1
Washington - 1
Boston - 1
Portland - 1
Toronto - 1

Now that obviously doesn't have the last 3 years or this year (or prior to that), but I do think it is fairly informative.  The simple reality is most teams avoid the tax at all costs and those that pay it don't tend to pay it very long.  Really the Warriors are the only exception as they have been in the tax for years and are paying massive amounts because of it.  How long they continue to do that is also up for debate.

Nets probably aren’t missing Kyrie lol

Can Thomas is fools gold.  I’m sure he’s loving the opportunity to jack up 30 shots a night, but he’ll have an 6-for-30 game soon enough.

Agree completely. Textbook case of a chucker who will temporarily blossom in the wake of roster change

Giannis is a monster.  The guy is just scary to play against and he wasn't even in full monster mode last night.

Really hope we get HCA and avoid facing them until the ECF

Yeah seeding is very important.  Embiid has some of that monster in him.  He just isn't as consistent, but Embiid will absolutely win a playoff game or two by himself.  Giannis will win multiple playoff games and perhaps even multiple playoff series by himself.  He is just that good.  The seeding right now it about perfect i.e. Atlanta then CLE/BKN before whoever comes out of the MIL/PHI/MIA trio.  About the only way this works out better is if the Knicks move up to the 5 line (which is highly unlikely)

Yeah I feel the same way. Also wouldn't mind seeing PHI/MIL beating each other up in the 2nd round and taking the other out. I'd hope PHI can beat MIL in the 2nd round and then we face them ECF (yes PHI/MIA won't be easy, but I'd still MUCH rather them than MIL if there's a choice for the ECF)

Interesting.  That's more than we paid to move Vonleh, and this could set the market for any Jackson dump.

Why would the Spurs do this? Big man depth for the eventual Poeltl trade?
