The Miami Heat are trading center Dewayne Dedmon and a second-round pick to the San Antonio Spurs, sources tell

Interesting.  That's more than we paid to move Vonleh, and this could set the market for any Jackson dump.

Why would the Spurs do this? Big man depth for the eventual Poeltl trade?
they are below the salary floor, so they would pay the salary out to someone and this way they picked up a 2nd round pick.

Dedmon makes $4.7 million, so he’s harder to move than Vonleh or Jackson.

Jeff McDonald: Couple of relevant details: Spurs are receiving a 2028 second-round pick from Miami, sending the Heat cash considerations. Spurs are not expected to keep Dewayne Dedmon on the roster. – via Twitter JMcDonald_SAEN

A buyout option for you if they buy him out.  They could waive him too.  I can't believe anyone would pick him up or why would Miami have traded him.  Either way, he likely ends up a FA.

Miami wanted room under the luxury tax.

My point was that if Miami had put him on waivers, like SAN may do, someone could have picked him up and then he would have come off their Cap I believe.  But there is no reason for SAN to waive him.  They need to pay him to meet the minimum.  They can buy him out which essentially ends up being the same thing, he is a FA.  SAN would not want someone to take him off waivers, right?  (not that anyone would).

They’re not buying him out.  They’re just waiving him, no strings attached (as happens in a buyout) because they want the roster space to take in more players in trades.

If he gets claimed, it doesn’t matter to SAN — there’s no penalty for being under the minimum salary.  The only thing that happens is that the money you’re short gets distributed to the players on your team.  But he won’t get claimed, which is why Miami paid a pick to dump him.

Hadn’t seen this mentioned, but the NBA has approved the sale of the Suns, with the deal expected to close today.  This means a) that Robert Sarver is officially out of the league, and that b) he can’t veto any trade in the next two days, as he could have involving any player making over the league average salary.  The Suns are now capable of making a more significant trade, although it’s obviously not clear if they will.

Nets are finalizing trade to send forward Kessler Edwards and cash to the Kings, sources tell ESPN. The Nets save a total of $8M in salary and luxury tax and open up a roster spot. Edwards still has to approve trade because he has a "one-year Bird Rights restriction" in his deal.

I still think Edwards can be something even though his numbers have been horrid... LOL

I was really surprised to see him perform so poorly this year.  Is it injury, lack of role or what?

That’s a pretty decent haul for Russ. Floor spacing would be way better with those guards.
