I will be watching Jalen Smith all season now saying, “What if“.
My binkie, I wanted to overpay him with the TP-MLE and then use the Fournier TPE for a rotation player.
I would have been for that if we could have scored a 2nd or two from NYK. I actually liked Fournier here, he struggled with shooting but tried on defense and made quick passes.

I didn’t like this signing from the beginning. C’s biggest need is a true backup 5. Really don’t like G-Will at C.
Quoting Nick from the now locked Ime thread:
Quote
At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

To some degree I agree. I only felt it made sense if team was going smaller and less two big. That would make Al more the backup 5 based on minutes.

Aside from Melo, I came up with a short list of players that fit in the DPE and can be had for a 2nd: Stanley Johnson, Sterling Brown, Bates-Diop, and Semi Ojeleye.

I’d sign one of them, have faith that we can fill in with one of them and one of the other players on the roster (CABOCLO!), while DG can comeback in the quicker of the 6-12 month recovery timeframe.

As a last resort and bypassing the DPE, what is Payton’s trade value? Packaged with Kornet, Hauser, and Brodric as needed for matching salary, I think players like Bazley, Vanderbilt, Kispert, Reddish, Toppin, PJ Washington, Jalen Smith, Avdija, Hachimura, Gay, and Patrick Williams would be available.

I think the DPE disqualifies DG.

I’m not sure if it does. They just make an assessment when you apply whether the guy is more than likely to be out until 6/15. I think if he beats that timeline it’s ok. Here’s an article with some info although it doesn’t mention what happens if the guy returns before 6/15. https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/wizards/what-does-disabled-player-exception-mean-nba

Thai is correct.  The Celtics apply for the DPE, and a league doctor has to find it likely that Gallinari would not return. With an ACL that’s not a high hurdle.  If Gallinari returns early, it doesn’t matter.

It's too bad Yabusele is signed long term to Real Madrid. Having seen some highlights of his recent play in International qualifying play and last year's work in Spain, it seems he might be a great fit on this team. He has seemingly grown into the player Ainge thought he might be drafting.

I think this lowers our odds (but not significantly) of winning NBA championship with Gallo out for the year...until we pick up another depth player or two.

Sign me up for Melo and Dwight. You guys want championships? Come here.

  • GOT IT!!!
This feels like a bad omen more than anything else. I’m cautiously optimistic on how this current group can handle expectations. 2019 was a disaster, hopefully this time around it is truly different.

What was I saying about disasters following the franchise around since the '86 title ?

This doesn't quite qualify as a disaster - unless Gallinari was the difference between a title and an ECF or Finals loss.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce
