It's not great news but it could have been worse. It could have been Tatum or Brown or Brogdon that had got injured. Gallo's absence sucks but it's not going to make or break our season. We may not find a like for like, but we should find someone to fill his minutes.

Cripes. Did his doctors not know how to run the MRI machine?

That's sucky news.  Sign Carmelo, and apply for the Disabled Player Exception.

Pretty bad misdiagnosis. Maybe it was an Italian doctor and it was a Friday afternoon

Yes, this is terrible news and it sucks for Gallinari big time.  I hope it isn't the end of his NBA career, but it certainly looks like it.  But I guess I wasn't expecting as much out of him this year as others did.  Injuries happen every year, hopefully this is our only big one, and it happens weeks before the season starts.  I think we can pivot and adjust.  Stay positive.  Best of luck to Gallo with the surgery and his rehab.  Gonna be tough as a 34 year old.

Harrell is still out there but not as a scoring option
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

Still deeper than we were last year ... But this is a huge bummer.

I will say that BS has demonstrated a lot of creativity in his short time as GM. I'm confident in his ability to land us another role player if need be.

Can we trade Gallo's contract if he has a player option on the second year? I feel like there's a rule about that.

If you combine his with Williams and Pritchard, you are getting close to what would be needed for a player like Markannen.

I'm not sure this can be claimed with certainty. I think you're right, in the sense that Gallo was probably never going to be a "key player," as in a major contributor, but if his absence leads to Tatum once again getting overused and running out of gas late in the postseason, and the Celtics again fall short, then Gallo's absence kinda would break the season.

By the way, any guesses as to when Brogdon goes down to injury and thus completely ruins what had been a pretty good offseason?

My worry too---wasting money on Gallinari and also wasting the 17Mil TPE...wonderful.

Unless Ime changes his strategy I think Dino was the 9th man in a 8 1/2 man rotation.
Brogdon is still a huge upgrade over Shroeder. White is comparable to Richardson.
Dino was going to take Langford and Neismith's minutes. Dino would play the 4 and Tatum could play more 3.

Dino added a scoring big that we didn't have. That would have allowed Tatum to play more at his best position.

My binkie, I wanted to overpay him with the TP-MLE and then use the Fournier TPE for a rotation player.

Am I wrong in thinking Melo can realistically give us most of what Gallo was supposed to give us for this season? A PF who can create his own shot, stretch the floor, provide vet experience and rebound for short minutes. I never expected either of them to provide good defense.

I think the issue is, would Mello give us something Dino wouldn't;

Trouble if he doesn't play
Bad influence on Tatum
Unhappy with his contract

You’re right except Gallinari can provide good defense while Melo’s been clueless on that end. He brings the attributes you mentioned on offense and under these circumstances, he might be one of the best options.

The DPE is only $3.2M and it has to be an expiring which is slim pickings. Perhaps a player like Stanley Johnson.

I agree with this. I’d take Melo.
