I hate to say it, but Lebron's response to Bill Russell's passing is one of the lamest responses out there, particularly coming from a supposed leader of the modern NBA.

I haven’t seen it.  But, a lot of players and members of the Celtics organization haven’t said anything public, so I won’t judge Lebron too harshly.

truly a sad day for Celtic fans, basketball fans and society in general.  A class act while playing -- both on and off the court.  tremendous individual that used his stature in the game to try to improve society.

Short and standard.

Maybe I'm being picky, but nothing about Russell's accomplishments on or off the court which basically every other player and non-player posted about.

I can't believe how sad I am.  He was a giant in the game of life, not just the NBA.

I was sad to hear the news, but not entirely surprised like I was with Tommy. Reports of Bill’s health deteriorating, him recently selling his house and auctioning off prized possessions. Felt like this day was coming soon.. :-\

It’s just a shame that the Celtics ownership wasn’t willing to buy everything up at auction and open up their own museum in Boston (Similar to what the Patriots did) to honor Celtics legends like Bill Russell. Would  have been great for fans to be able to visit and pay homage, instead of rich people just buying pieces to display in their mansions as trophies. It’s sickening, really.

Quoting Nick from the now locked Ime thread:

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Tough for the C's to set up a museum at the Garden given they don't own it and the limited space in that building. I guess they could set one up at the Auerbach Center, but that's not a tourist destination and would never get heavy traffic.

That’s a fan page for Lebron. James hasn’t posted anything about it on social media.

What's most striking to me is how he seemingly mellowed in his feelings towards Boston and the public perception of his career as a player in later years. Keeping in mind that he didn't want his number retired publicly by the Celtics, his refusal to attend his HOF induction and his general attitude towards Boston and its fans.

Over the past few years he allowed the NBA to honor his legacy, was active on social media and seemingly let the public into his life a little bit. You always heard plenty from him come Finals time which was more than appropriate since he was the greatest winner of all time in team sports.

He also seemed to not have any issue with reminding folks about how good he actually was. I think my favorite quote from him was when a reporter asked him how he would have dealt with Shaq (who at the time was in his prime). Russell's reply was 'I think a better question would be how would Shaq have dealt with me'.

Sad news. I always enjoyed listening to him share his knowledge about basketball or anything else.

LeBron James is not a serious person.  He was born with generational athletic abilities, but unfortunately, offers nothing else.

Let’s not let 30 seconds of fact checking get in the way of piling on a sports guy we don’t like.
