I’m curious how people who are very critical of the BLM movement find themselves watching the NBA in 2022. Most of the the people that I know espousing racist beliefs think that the NBA is unwatchable. I don’t ask them to explain why, but I’ve been told that the league hasn’t been the same since Larry Bird left.

Yeah I think you have kind of stepped in it a bit with this exact example. I was recently working for one of the bigger race equity foundations in the country on a contract basis. 98% of company and all of leadership were members of minority groups. BLM is viewed by them and many others in the space as a divisive organization with extreme corruption (misuse of funds, tax stuff, unclear missions and activities). There will probably be some criminal indictments related to this. Wouldn’t use them as your example. 

(Although I do understand there are a lot of racists hating blm without knowing any of this). Just wouldn’t use it as an example

There are a few here, and many elsewhere, who are just fine believing all sorts of outlandish conspiracies that carry with them not a shred of evidence to support the claim.  One example is a stolen election in 2020, but there are ideas far less feasible and far crazier than that one.  Evidence needed?  Not really -- Trump said it, Alex Jones said it, Rudy said it, Rush said it, Sean or Tucker or Laura said it.... that's good enough.

But when a black person shares their experiences, or when a group of black Americans express the reality of common experiences, there is, from the very people who buy the evidence-lacking conspiracies, a tone of resistance, reluctance, and denial.  You're not buying it, you're searching your brain for "what abouts" and double standards to counter the claims.   If one's knee-jerk response (first thought) is to question the observations of a black person, it's evidence of prejudice, or bias, or racism. 

Of course it's OK for logical criticism of a person's comments (as in the case of Lebron) when the person's own logic falters.  But notice that almost everyone here who criticized Lebron also acknowledged in some way their acceptance that there is a difference in how blacks and whites are treated in America IN GENERAL (certainly not always).  And while there are some socio-economic and behavioral explanations for some of the treatment of blacks in some circumstances, there is acknowledgement by most that at least part of the difference (again, in general) occurs because of skin color.  While I realize it's frustrating for some that there is so much focus on race whenever a black person is involved in an incident, I think we need to continue to get better at our awareness of, and management of, the role race plays in our subconscious and our conscious actions.  I know this is something I try to get better at and am not all the way there for sure.  America is not striving for a more perfect union unless we continue to get better at dealing with this.

I wanted to bump this post, as it seems relevant to those that appear skeptical and want to analyze this as if it were a murder trial.

I have no idea what you’re talking about.  I presented the Celtics statement, which Moranis left out.  How is that being “the arbiter of what would offend black people”?

Also:  go talk with some “black people”.  Interestingly, they’re not some homogeneous, monolithic breathing stereotype that is identified with a broad brush.  Shocking, I know.  They don’t all take offense to the same things or think the same way.  My goodness, “black people” may even be individuals, as different from one another as “white people”.  I’m still not sure how this applies to the quoted post, but perhaps we shouldn’t be trying to speak on a race that encompasses hundreds of millions of people?

How is that “the arbiter of what should offend black people”?  It seems like a non sequitur.  And, that non sequitur contains some stereotyping / racism / dehumanizing of “black people”, don’t you think?

The Celtics’ statement speaks for itself, doesn’t it? 

Moranis cited the investigation, and then inaccurately described the conclusion reached.  People who intentionally leave out facts are pushing a narrative.  Those who support those leaving out facts have no interest in the truth; they’re pushing an agenda.

I’m not questioning feelings. A player can feel how ever he wants to feel. However, it is always fair to look at objective facts to examine somebody’s subjective feelings.

Two things can be true at the same time*.

Boston/Celtics fans can have things it needs to improve on (caveat, not from Boston here so maybe speaking out of line a bit*).

And Lebron can be wrong...

By equating Lebron hate with racial hate. He may have experienced some racial hate, but he also said "f--- Lebron" t-shirts are racist. He also chose to call all the Celtics fans racist, they're "racist as f---", and clearly it's not all but some. That just puts him in a bad light in my opinion - it's like as Roy said, he's as thoughtful as the 17 year old kid mowing his mom's lawn for pocket money, for all the spotlight he gets.

I get what he means. Some fans are racist, some fans cross lines. And that brings down everyone. But as someone who makes himself out to be the face of social issues and put himself in front of the camera so much, he is so careless with his words.

On the other side of things, I fully accept what Jaylen says (I think those articles were quoting his response to Kyrie's comments from before). If you want to talk social issues and sensitive issues, HERE's how you should do it.
