Brown is better, but if Celtics management believe Jaylen might leave when his contract is up in 2 years, Mitchell would make sense since he's under contract for longer and good pals with Tatum.
You have this wrong. It's Brown and Mitchell that are real good friends. Not Tatum.

Tatum was just at that Ruben party with Mitchell, they took pictures together

A pic. But Mitchell and Brown have long term history. I guess both could be good friends with Mitchell. I had only heard of Brown's friendship

^ To back up Nick here, Jaylen and Donovan comment on each others' posts and post each other fairly often (especially for someone like Jaylen who keeps a relatively low profile on his social media -- it's mostly 7uice or world traveler content, not friends). Tatum and Mitchell are definitely friendly, but Brown and Mitchell are an atypically tight pair, it seems.

Good Lord, I hope the Celtics are not seriously considering trading for Donavan Mitchell. He's a talented player and all, but I don't see adding him and losing, say Brown, in the process as getting us any closer to the title. Celts management needs to be focusing on adding rebounding and some attitude to this soft group. We currently allow too many on-court insults to go unchallenged.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

Brown is slightly better. Too bad team couldn't swing Smart and Brogdon for Mitchell.

Mitchell, Brown, and Tatum is a legit big three.

Only 1 ball though.

Could those 3 all get along? I doubt it.

Donovan Mitchell is fairly ball dominant and takes a lot of shots. I would expect there to be quite a bit of friction between him and the Jays ... who are no strangers to taking a lot of shot themselves ... nevermind the rest of the team who be spending most of their time standing around watching those 3 take all the shots.

I don't know. I think you might be being a bit fatalistic here. If each of the three got 18 shots or so and averaged around 20 PPG, I think it could work. Reducing Smart's shots and Al's due to less minutes played overall....and giving them to Mitchell would work.

The team's issue last year in the playoffs was offense. Maybe adding Gallo and Brogdon gets the team that increase in offense they need. Maybe. But adding Mitchell definitely would

That said, Mitchell will go somewhere that will have better assets to send to Utah.

I think Mitchell is significantly better with the ball in his hands. Better shot creator and facilitator.

However, Brown is much bigger and more versatile, plays significantly better defence, seems to be a better off-ball option due to his efficiency, and rebounds a lot better.

I like this question.

Mitchell has got to be the consensus better player. But why? He averages a few more ppg (2-3 ppg) less efficiently and he's not nearly as good of a defender. Would Mitchell actually be an upgrade on Brown?

If you could get Mitchell without Tatum or Brown, I think you'd have to do it, though the cost would be immense.  If Utah would do something like this, I think you have to do it.

Smart, Rob, Grant, Pritchard, 25 1st, 27 1st, 29 1st

for

Mitchell

I just don't know if that is enough because there is no clear star going back to Utah and that seems like the type of trade that needs a potential star going to Utah.

Post Trade even more roster holes

Starters - Brogdon, Mitchell, Brown, Tatum, Horford
Rotation - White, Gallo

But if you did the trade in the next few days you could then use the TPE either with Utah (Clarkson?) or other teams
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Ainge is blowing Utah up. He won't be looking for talent and contracts. He will be looking for high first round picks, as little long term salary as possible, salary dumping, if possible, and high end talent on rookie contracts.

I would really like to add Mitchell if we can hold onto Tatum and Brown.  A trio of Tatum, Brown, and Mitchell would be pretty much unstoppable.

Especially considering we have very good support players like Smart, Brogdan, Horford, and Rob Williams coming off the bench.  Heck, I'd consider trading Smart plus picks for Mitchell.  I think Mitchell is a better starting offensive option than Smart by far.  And you don't lose that much defense compared to Smart when you rotate in Brogdan for Mitchell for size matchups.
