My favorite Wiggy line was "don't every man want his own fire hydrant to pee on?".

It is too bad that Wiggy is putting this out there.  From the discussion on the Pod Cast, I don't think Brown came right out and said any of this.  This is just the conclusion that Wiggy came to based on things Brown said or the way he said them.

I would think that Brown knows he is not good enough to be the #1 guy on a title team.  Very few players are, this is not a knock on Brown.  Unless he wants to be Bradley Beal, the best player on a mediocre team, he is not going to be "the guy".  And as I said, it seems to me that Brown is smart enough to understand this.

At any rate, I am not going to worry about this until say Jan 2024.  Even if in the unlikely case that Brown really does feel this way right now, he has plenty of time to feel differently.  In no case would I trade him now just because maybe he won't resign in 2 years.  You can start worrying about that sometime in 2024.

Wiggy has said some of the stupidest and least informed things I have ever heard on Boston sports radio.....and my listening days go back to when Eddie Andelman was the only guy doing sports radio in Boston.

I can't imagine there is even a speck of truth in anything Wiggins claims about Jaylen.

Yeah.  To me, give me a direct quote or it's close to meaningless.  Wiggins interpreting the subtext of what JB was saying doesn't tell me a whole lot.

That said, it *is* up to Brad to interpret that subtext.  Like I said in another thread, if there's a 50%+ chance that JB leaves, then we need to deal him for Durant.  Brown + Grant + Pritchard + multiple #1s should get it done, and it works financially.  Ideally, we'd get Curry back in the deal as well.

I disagree. Brown probably thinks he is just as good as Tatum, if not better. Most really good players think they are the best. The talent difference between Brown and Tatum is much smaller than the level of attention and praise given to Tatum relative to Brown by media and fans warrants. I would not blame Brown for feeling slighted and wanting to strike out on his own. But I hope he does not. I seem to recall Steve Bulpett reporting a similar story about Brown unsure of sticking around around January.

Yeah, of course neither of us can know but Brown is pretty clearly not that type of a number one guy.  Even Tatum may not be.  I would speculate that it is more likely that Brown's issue (if in fact there is even an issue at all) isn't being a "Robin", it is being specifically a Robin to Tatum.  Maybe the issue is that Brown doesn't think Tatum can take him to the promised land and if he is going to be someone's Robin, he wants a better Batman.  Again, I have doubts there is any issue at all but if there is an issue, it is seems more likely this than that Brown thinks he can be the Batman on a title team.

Like I said, I view Brown as a pretty thoughtful and intelligent guy.  I don't get the feeling that he has an overly inflated view of himself.  But that is just an opinion.

Truthfully I think its believable. Didn't Mannix say something similar the other day as well?

Jaylen is destined to live in Tatums shadow as long as they are both on the Celtics, when truthfully many (myself included) feel he is the better talent. He is involved in trade rumors all of the time and I'm sure it gets tiresome.

If Jaylen does want to be the guy elsewhere, I'd have to think forcing his hand to Brooklyn, knowing he is the ideal piece in return for Brooklyn, is a good way to go about it. More importantly if there is any smoke near this fire then Brad has to take a serious look at trading Jaylen for Durant. I was anti making this trade, but if there is any merit that Jaylen wants out we need to cash in on him now.

Yep.  I mean they were talking on the radio the other day that Westbrook probably thinks he is the best player on the Lakers and he almost certainly thought he was better than Durant when they played together.  That is just the reality of reaching the pinnacle of any field.  You almost have to have this blindness to reality to reach those levels.  I'd be surprised if Brown didn't think he was the best player on the team.  He isn't, but that doesn't mean he doesn't think he is.

Wiggins creditable?

#facepalm!

Some people here bash Bleacher Report, well, it's a heck of a lot more creditable than Wiggie.

WEEI is a sinking ship.

And Wiggins certainly wouldn't be the guy to be getting good intel from.

Setting aside the emptiness of the sports hype machine, we can all understand from our own working lives that there are things that bother us about any job, but that is quite a bit different from blowing it up and going somewhere else. Hopefully, Jaylen has watched as a substantial number of superstars have opted out of their situations. The results do not indicate that it is likely you will find what you want, and even if you do, it may not make you happy. Look at Kevin Durant as an example.

I do think the team needs to look at how they use him. Ime made progress where Stevens didn't in a number of areas, but one thing he did little to fix was addressing Jaylen's role, which remains schizophrenic. He can score 25 in the first half, then barely touch the ball in the second. Generally, his scoring occurs in one or two 5 minute bursts and then he stands in the corner while Tatum and Smart dominate the ball.

Since he is not a primary ball handler, often he is completely frozen out for a quarter or a half. He has a very strange shot pattern. He gets consistent shots every night, but they have a very odd distribution.

One of the reasons the 80's Celtics were so dominant was that Bird managed ball and shot distribution like a maestro. If Parish or McHale went too long without the ball, he noticed very quickly and fixed it. We don't have a player that does this stuff, and we don't have coaches that do it either.

For all of his shortcomings during the playoffs (ie turnovers, ill-advised plays), JB displayed a toughness, “never-give-up” attitude.  He went down swinging.  He showed a lot of pride.

While I dont give any creedence into what Wiggy stated, I do believe JB does NOT like playing second fiddle to JT.  And after the finals, and JT’s performance, he may believe that even more.

I can see JB wanting to be the top dog elsewhere.  Wouldnt surprise me one bit.

Yeh, Wiggy's odd takes are better suited for every day observations, not sports.

Jaylen's been part of a playoff run literally every year he's been healthy in Boston. The Celtics will have the ability to pay him more than anybody else on his next contract. He had community ties including a business and speaking at MIT/Harvard. He may not be the first option, but he's a pretty high usage #2. Boston may not be a glamour market, but it is a pretty high profile market. He's never, to my knowledge, said anything publicly other than "I want to win here."

Unless something goes horribly wrong the next few years I'd be pretty surprised if he doesn't re-sign. This seems more like people reading their own feelings into the situation (and of course trying to find something to talk about on the radio in slow summer months).

He only has 2 more years on his contract.  The question is will the Celts offer him a SuperMax contract.  If not, I think it is a coin flip as to whether he resigns.
