I'd rather have Roby than a rehab project or big that probably won't make the rotation. Roby is a 3/4. I'm not ready to just bank on Hauser there.

It looks like he was more of a 4/5 in OKC. I haven't seen him play, is that him playing out of position?

It would be a bit of a logjam, but if he's a young guy who would be ahead of Hauser and on par with GWill, and can backup both Horford and Williams who are sure to miss games... I would think he'd find some minutes. Bonus if we can occasionally play the 3.
Id say he is similar to PJ Washington with less upside right now. Can he play small ball 5, sure  but it's almost too small. Better at the 4 and can match up with 3s. If you like switching he is a good development player.

In a vacuum I would be all in. But we need a bench big man most of all

Do the Celtics need more developmental players? I would prefer adding a couple of vet min guys that have at least one great skill, giving Ime more tools in the toolbox for game situation substitutions. Gorgui Dieng and TJ Warren come to mind.

At 12 strong in the rotation I am for the other spots being development players. I don't call PP and GW development players. Begarin and Davidson are development type and they will probably be on 2ways. Roby is farther along than them. Plus if we get a vet who gets pushed out? Are guys going to be okay with a lot of DNPs?

The Celtics are around 25th in line for waivers.  If we put in a claim and get him, that means 24ish teams passed on him.  I wouldn’t hate him, but that would be a pretty strong signal about him.
I'll be very surprised if he clears waivers. From what I read, he can't be claimed with the min exception. If a team wants him, they gotta use either cap space or a TPE. In any case, it seems unlikely we'll get him. For instance, the Fakers have a $2.7M TPE.

We have a TPE too no?

Several.  But, teams with worse records get to make waiver claims first.

Does anybody know, if the waiver claims are announced as they are put or are they only released once the waiver process is completed? If Celtics put a claim on Roby, will we know about it or it will remain a misters unless they decide to announce it themselves?

We would only know if they won the waiver claim, he is claimed by a lower priority team, or is unclaimed.  If he is claimed by a team with higher priority, we will never know.

If my research is correct, the waiver process should be over in about 12 hours. I admit it gave me something to get excited about in this otherwise slow and silent free agency period. Though if he’s any good, he will certainly be picked up by some other team.

Good pickup. He should play there. SAS don't have much talent at forward outside of Keldon Johnson.

He'll learn from a great coach.
