OKC waived Isaiah Roby which surprise many folks around NBA..like see Celtics grab him if they can’t get Bryant..
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

One man's trash is another man's treasure. Would love him on the C's!

Is he too duplicative of Sam Hauser?

I would rather have someone with a different skill-set than more of the same.

I am not that familiar with Roby’s game but what I am seeing is he is more of a big than a wing. I see Hauser as more of a wing.

So he is he more of a bench PF then?

We already have G Williams and Gallinari to provide depth there.

I don't see what role is being filled by Roby. We need a legitimate big man / center & some wing (SG / SF) depth. We have good cover off the bench at SF / PF with Gallo, G-Will and Hauser.

Roby looks a nice player. I just don't see what role he fills here. We already have guys who offer what he offers.

I agree with this.  We just don’t have a spot for him.  He’s too duplicative of Williams, Gallo and Hauser.

Not sure why you guys compare him to Gallo and Hauser. Per cleaningtheglass.com, he played 88% of his minutes at Center last season (and 43% the previous season). Here's how he was scoring his points last season.

24% PnR roll man
21.4% Spot up
19.7% Transition
11.4% Cut
10.0% Putbacks
2.6% Post up
5.9% Miscellaneous

He also averaged 3.3 screens assists per 36 minutes. The high PnR frequency and the screen assists number clearly suggest he's more of a Big rather than a Swing. I'd much rather have Roby than any of the backup Bigs mentioned in the other threads.

I am not sure that Roby is duplicative of Hauser or that it matters but with the following players on the team:

Horford
Williams
Williams
Gallinari
Kornet

It seems we have enough bigs.  I wonder if even Bryant is still under consideration.  We could carry 6 bigs but not sure we end up there.

We do still need a wing and Roby is not that:

Tatum
Brown
Hauser
Thomas

It is quite a drop off from Brown to Hauser and Thomas may be a 2-way again.  A legit proven vet to slot there would be the key missing piece in my mind.

I disagree that five bugs — one of whom is Kornet — is enough.  I think we need a real backup center.

Only 2 legitimate centers one of which is injury prone (Rob Williams) and the other is 36 years old (Horford) on the roster right now.

And Kornet who can't be trusted. Udoka did not trust him last year. CBS did not trust him the year before. He cannot be depended on to be the answer when / if Timelord and/or Horford get hurt.

That is not a stable depth chart at center.

I'd rather have Roby than a rehab project or big that probably won't make the rotation. Roby is a 3/4. I'm not ready to just bank on Hauser there.

It looks like he was more of a 4/5 in OKC. I haven't seen him play, is that him playing out of position?

It would be a bit of a logjam, but if he's a young guy who would be ahead of Hauser and on par with GWill, and can backup both Horford and Williams who are sure to miss games... I would think he'd find some minutes. Bonus if we can occasionally play the 3.

I'd also be very happy with Kessler Edwards in that 14th spot.

The Celtics are around 25th in line for waivers.  If we put in a claim and get him, that means 24ish teams passed on him.  I wouldn’t hate him, but that would be a pretty strong signal about him.
