They won't use it all, they'll add a piece player with it, much to the chagrin of the fan base.

First reaction = they gotta!!!

Second reaction = well, if they land a good backup wing in FA then they don't really need to use the TPE and frankly it would be hard to justify financially.

So my best guess is it will depend on whether they strike out in FA or not. We should know pretty early on. They will desperate enough to bring in an expensive role player if they strike out in FA.

I wouldn't be shocked if it is split into two separate trades.

I think they will sort of use most of it.  There will be some outgoing salary in a trade, but the player they acquire back will make more than matching would have allowed for.  In other words, I think they’ll acquire someone who makes $13-$17 million, but the net salary addition will be less.

Don’t know how that goes into the poll.

I'll be surprised if they use it but happily surprised. We need to stock that bench.

I'd call that using $13+ million of it, just with another (smaller) TPE being generated as well

I'm pretty much in the same boat
I'm bitter.

Yeah.  I guess I think they add $6.5 to $13 million in net salary, so it depends if the poll is more asking how much we think ownership will open their wallets or what quality of player we’ll receive.

I think it will expire unused given the early deadline, unless a team desperate to create salary cap room to sign FA (e.g. Knicks) come knocking, in which case I could see us using it to absorb Burks and Noel, don't know the numbers of combined are with them. They would both serve a very useful bench need.

They better do something with it, because sitting pat does not cut it in the NBA other teams will try to improve and had picks.  Middleton will be back.

The bench has to improve.   The growth within comments by Udoka, really scare me in terms of being competitive for the future.   We have to have a better bench than Grant, Pritchard and White and G league retreads.

It's just about how much of the TPE is used.  The question of by how much we exceed the tax is a different one.

Listening to both local and national pods has me wondering if there is a potential Knicks/Celtics trade where the C's take Alec Burks and Cam Reddish into the TPE so the Knicks can sign Brunson.

I think the Cs can take both Reddish and Burks into the Fournier TPE, but I am hardly a cap expert.

Yes, they would both fit.

I'd rather bring back Fournier than Burks & Reddish.

Yeah, I'd much prefer Fournier since he is easily the best player of the three, but also think we deserve draft compensation. The Knicks traded the #13 pick and Kemba Walker's expiring $8M contract for the 2025 MIL Bucks pick (projected to be much later than #13). If we are taking on $37M-$56M in salary (3rd year is a TO), then we deserve something back - especially since the Knicks are desperate to clear salary.
