This is the kind of thing that is driving me away from the league. Constantly having to worry that your star players will bolt even if front office has built good teams around him is a joke.
Sucks if you're a season ticket holder (or 'member' as they like to call it now). If you're a Nets fan forking over your cash expecting that you're going to see meaningful games next season you may well be out of luck. That's a great way to take care of your most loyal paying customers.

Tickets sale /prices soared ….Nets fans wound up with a big nothing burger investing in Nash, Durant , Irving and Harden .  And stuck with defunct Simmons .

But if Jaylen is already disgruntled and wants out, why wouldn't he be happy to hear his name in a big trade?

Well, I think you added a step.  A guy can be disgruntled, but not want out.

To use an analogy...  A guy is a little unhappy in his relationship with his girlfriend.  He feels like he's not getting enough attention, she's blowing him off, etc.  But, he wants to work on some things and build on the good aspects of the relationship, while trying to find some compromises in other areas.

If he then hears his girlfriend has been giving her number out to single guys, he's probably not going to be happy.  He'll just be more disgruntled, until he breaks it off.

Brown tweeting SMH…

Maybe it’s because he’s been reassured the report is BS or maybe it’s because he’s upset.

So the boyfriend says I am not real happy and thinking about leaving (in two years) and then is upset when the girlfriend starts to question their future shops around?

These are terrible analogies but I appreciate what you are trying to do.  But what people are saying is things like if Brown wants out, you have to trade him now and make sure you get something.  You can't lose him for nothing.  If Brown is signaling to the team that he wants out, he should not be offended that his name comes up in a trade.  You just can't take both sides of the argument.  He is either already disgruntled and wants out so the trade rumor has no impact or he is not disgruntled, wants to be a valued part of the organization, and probably will be miffed by hearing his name in trade rumors.

For the record, I am leaning to the latter.  I don't think he is disgruntled and doubt very much that he has signaled this to the team.  All players accept the business aspect but I suspect he is not real happy about hearing his name in trade rumors.  He has several million good reasons to find a way to deal with it though.

Or maybe he simply doesn't like the media crapstorm going on right now & the attention on him.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
I refuse to believe that Brad Stevens is dumb enough to not only make a move that he surely knows would alienate his player, but also knows that this will leak.

There has to be something going on.

Maybe Jaylen Brown is inclined to not want to sign an extension and Brad is doing his due diligence? Either way this isn't a good gamble.

Because now it's either we get Durant at the expense of our depth, or we BOTH not get Durant (because Brad won't give up other pieces) AND lose Jaylen in two years in Free Agency.

Terrible situation to be in.

But hey, it's the offseason. We didn't win a ring. Let's trade our whole team for picks and start over so we can catch the 76ers and the Bucks on the decline/  ::)

Yeah, if Murphy's source is correct, I think Brad made a misstep.

Because, if JB really is happy and loves Boston, then you don't give up seven years of JB for the twilight years of Durant.  And that's without including the value of White, future first rounders, etc.

Yep, this is bad. Brad went extra greedy and now he's stuck in a rock and a hard place.

To get Durant, he has to give up depth and future assets along with Brown. Anything less and he won't get his guy. But now, he has to repair the relationship with Jaylen Brown, if he can. Might as well work on the idea that Brown is gone in two years.

Jeez, man. Greed really gets you. I may sound like a spoiled fan, but we didn't need Durant. And now Brad risked dismantling a good championship core for several years because why?

Darn it. . .

To Yoki's post above:

There's some reddit thread I've been sent which is saying in a roundabout way that, per Windy, this is old news from when Durant was first fishing for a new team:
https://www.reddit.com/r/bostonceltics/comments/w7rkzw/windhorst_celtics_trade_offer_to_brooklyn_for/

Ultimately this is just devolving into journalism-ism (the journaling of journalism, if you like). Fun but I wouldn't read too much into it beyond the fact that it's a slow Monday before the end of the month, so the page views need to be up.
