The amount of angst that can be caused because of a couple pictures is pretty amazing.

Tatum took a picture with Draymond Green....oh no, Tatum wants to go to Golden State

Brown takes pics with Kanye and Irving...oh no he's going to start acting like those two and want out of Boston.

Ridiculous.

Both are their own men. They're both intelligent young men. And neither has said anything publicly other than they want to be Boston Celtics.

Kyrie never said anything publicly, either.  And obviously, Danny should have traded him but held out false hope.

I hope Jaylen is here for the long term, but long-timers generally don’t bash the fans and hang out with flakes who bashed the franchise.  Brad needs to keep a close eye on JB.
Does "bashing the fans" now constitute liking a tweet that says Boston fans are disrespectful of him? This after the Celtics lost and fans were blaming him in part, as well as including him in trade scenarios.

The man is right. There is a loud vocal portion of the fan base that does disrespect him.

As for who Brown associates with, Tatum has hung with Kobe and Draymond Green, two guys not exactly known for their love of the Celtics. Who knows the people other Celtics players associate with? They could be flakes and not lovers of all things Celtics

This is all much ado about nothing. As long as Brown has a great relationship with Ime, Brad and his teammates that's what matters and as far as that goes, it appears those relationships are excellent.

Heck, new Celtics praise Brown for being one of the first people to call them and welcome them as new Celtics. Doing that doesn't equate with being disgruntled as a Celtic and thinking about leaving.

Twice this off-season he’s expressed displeasure with the fans.  Now he’s hanging with the guy who abandoned the franchise, burned sage here, stomped on Lucky, called Boston racist and gave fans the middle finger.

It’s sort of like your spouse staying late at “work” a lot and immediately ducking into the shower when they get home, after spending a bunch of time hanging with your cheating ex.  It’s probably nothing, right?
If that's the stuff bugging fans, they need to get past their immature ways and grow up. Who are the immature flakes, if burning sage in the Garden or stepping on Lucky, which by the way happens in every game, is something upsetting?

Unreal.

I didn’t realize you were such a Kyrie fan.  Yeah, fans should be cool with opposing players calling our fans racist, giving them the finger, burning sage and stomping on the logo (which does not, in fact, happen every game.  Lol.)

Alarm are going off ever since the Kyrie comments. What is the earliest date on the calendar we can offer him a max extension, so I can update my calendar accordingly?

If anyone knows Jaylen and how he feels about being in Boston, it's Brad Stevens, and I'm confident Brad will make the right move regarding Jaylen. If he thinks Jaylen plans to test free agency and may want to go elsewhere, he will move him, and we won't hear about it until it's done. If he's confident Jaylen wants to stay here he will lock him up long term.

Please don't confuse my indifference over an immature idiot like Kyrie doing immature, idiotic stuff, with supporting or liking Kyrie in any way. I'm just not going to stoop to his level and overreact in the same immature and idiotic manner. He doesn't live rent free in my head upsetting me over dumb antics like so many Celtic fans are allowing him to live rent free in their heads.

It's not about Kyrie or whoever being in my head so much as our own players lack of response to these insulting gestures and comments about their team, fans and franchise. Allowing Draymond Green to walk into our huddle during the finals without a reaction of any kind from our players says a lot about the lack of toughness on the Celtics and it is something that has to be fixed if they want to win titles.

For Jaylen to keep counsel with this nut case who has been so openly disrespectful towards important traditions of such a storied franchise raises a red flag to me, especially given the guy lied to Jaylen and his teammates, did not show up for important games when he was injured, sabotaged the Bucks series and then abandoned the team for nothing. If I am a Celtic, I take that stuff personally.

As for Jaylen being upset that fans put some of the blame of playoff failures on him, what does he expect ? He constantly turned the ball over and repeated the same dumb plays he has been committing his entire career. Being criticized for playing badly is not being "disrespected." I think Jaylen sometimes invents problems in his head.

I don’t think the danger is clear or present. It is only as clear as the interpretation of some tweets. End it is only as present as the two seasons remaining on his contract.

I don’t know for sure if he is disgruntled or not. I suspect it is not nearly as bad as some people fear even in the worst case. And nothing that another good long playoff run won’t take care of.

I dunno if I've said this before but it honestly blows my mind that Greenly would want to trade Jaylen for KD or Kawhii, when KD literally has a horrible track record of quitting, and Kawhii not much better. I guess I get that talent beats out everything else, and some people would absolutely let KD/Harden/AD/Kawhii's of the world dictate their fate (and I guess there's an argument to be made that it's kind of inevitable, given the players are basically the most important thing to the NBA).

But yea you pared it out well Vermont --- it's just a bit mind boggling to me for Greenly to on the one hand read so much into the say 5% chance Jaylen's leaving from these Tweets and whatnot, and on the other to welcome some of these people (including KD who I feel is just ridiculous asking to leave with 4 years left on his contract) with open arms.

Is that right ?

Cedric Maxwell had a big problem with the insults from Irving and Green the past two seasons.
Bird still calls Lambier a dirty player and would not even shake his hand after the Celtics ECF win in '87.
I don't remember Garnett or Pierce having any love for Lebron.
Paul Silas made a point of never even helping an opponent up off the floor.

Yeah I know, these are all a bunch of old guys whose time has passed according to you.

I have no idea what happened in the locker room when Irving was here, but he and Brown always seemed close and I don't think a player is going to hold it against another player if they want to switch teams at the end of the contract.  Irving finished out his contract and left in free agency.  To my knowledge, Irving has never insulted Brown or even disparaged him in any way.  Why would Brown hold Irving leaving the C's against Irving such that it would ruin whatever their relationship was?  That is the point of free agency i.e. to allow the players the freedom to leave.

As many on here know, I'd trade Brown in the right trade for plenty of reasons, him being friendly with Irving is certainly not one of them.

He wasn't close with Kyrie when they played together.  They developed a friendship after he left:

Quote
"Off the court, me and Kyrie might have started off with a lot of bumps in the road," Brown told Chin during NBC Sports Boston's Celtics Playoff Preview Special. "But as of lately, Kyrie is somebody that I've connected with. Somebody that I call a friend, a brother. Somebody that calls me to pick my brain at this point.

"It wasn't like that when we played together. We bumped heads a lot. But it's funny now in hindsight. Kyrie, he talks to me, hits me up all the time and our relationship has grown a lot since then."

You don't remember all of the "young guys" criticisms coming from Kyrie in the media?  And JB publicly saying that comments and finger pointing in the media wasn't helpful, and that no one guy or group of guys was responsible for the team's funk?  That was in Kyrie's last year, I think.  There was definitely no closeness there.

It's weird to me that he befriended Kyrie with everything that came after, but that's for those two and their personal lives.  But, if Jaylen had adopted even a little bit of the Kyrie "philosophy", I wouldn't assume that he's just going to accept a max contract and live happily ever after as a Celtic.

Unreal.

I greatly admire your backing of JB. I really do. I sincerely hope I’m wrong about the guy and you’re right. But I’m scared of us losing him for nothing. It’s a clear and present danger. Alarm are going off ever since the Kyrie comments. What is the earliest date on the calendar we can offer him a max extension, so I can update my calendar accordingly?

TP for clearly laying out the contradictions in Greenly's justifications of his trades.
