Begin Fix Everything Thread:

1.  Know your limitations with the dribble.  The C's are dribbling fools like none before them...they are trying extremely high difficult things in traffic that no superstar in history have tried except maybe tiny little ball wizard guards.  I think it's a modern thing from growing up watching Harden or MJ, etc..everyone wants to get their crossover or spin on...Stop it!  Simple two point shot instead, if not a three.  Or quick one or two dribble moves.  That's it!  Do that and you'll erase a whole lot of GS points.  The finals are not about having fun on offense...if you are about winning.  They are about work and high level care of the ball.

2.  Smart stop falling down.  Stay on your feet the whole game unless you are diving for a loose ball.

3.  Take time with free throws. They matter...don't act cool shooting free throws...shoot em like you really care.  Like you care too much.

4. Smart and Grant stop baiting the refs (related to number 4).  Expect to get whacked and not get a call. Just play. (you too on that Tatum).  There are two directions on the court...forward and backward, offense and defense, up and down, etc.  Complaining to the refs is a sideways movement that doesn't fit what basketball movement is about.  Not if you're serious.

5. Keep up the great defense...just limit lapses as best you can.

6.  Respect your opponent.  They are playing high level defense too. This is the finals...you are not supposed to be able to waltz anywhere with the ball.  So take care of it.

7. Give Tatum a bit more rest during the game.  It gives a different look to the Warriors and will prevent his being completely gassed in the 4th.  The C's need a Saadiq Bey type or a Herb Jones or Hakeem Warrick or James Posey or Vanderbilt from Minny, etc..for this purpose...but for now use Grant or even Theis...just rest Tatum more.

8.  Stop saying Tatum needs to step up.  Unless by step up you mean play a good all around game with low turnovers.  Tatum does not have to be a hero for the C's to win.  He just has to play solid basketball and not turn it over.  He is a force, period, or can be. Imagine go for a triple double of 15 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, with max 2 turnovers.  As far as scoring, points will come naturally, including high scoring games.  They just happen to offensively gifted players.  But if you force your offense you'll doom your team's chances.  just take care of the ball.

If Tatum just hit four more of his FTs, he'd have a 31-point game tonight

TP. Everything you said was what they had been doing till these last 2 games. I especially agree with the bolded. I just don't understand why players feel the need to keep arguing with the referees, I feel like it's the most pointless thing to do. Like arguing with a police officer after he's decided to give you a speeding ticket. They're not going to change their mind. I guess it's come into the game along with flopping this last decade or so. Everyone trying to hard to get calls, it's almost become like soccer in a way.

And with the dribbling in a crowd...Jaylen is the worst at this, and tonight he lost the ball three times dribbling into a crowd, trying to go behind the back and between the legs. But JT and Smart are bad at it too. Know your limitations!

The Warriors play a style of defense the Celtics should try to emulate. At the beginning of the series I posted about the amount of contact the Warriors make while playing defense. This included a lot of hand checking, bumping, reaching in, slapping at the ball, etc.

I noticed the Celtics do that to some extent as well.

The major difference (as I see it) is that when the Warriors hand check they do it firmly - almost stiff armed. Oftentimes they hand check with just enough force to throw the Celtic player slightly off balance. Yet, not hard enough to knock the player over and/or draw a foul.

For some reason the refs are allowing an incredible amount of leeway in this regard. This might be something the Celtics could explore. Of course, be careful with Curry as he's an expert at sweeping his arm into an outstretched hand and drawing a foul.

A couple players I wish would hand check more firmly would be Tatum, White and Horford. White should have bumped and/or hand checked Wiggins a number of times before he shot the ball tonight. White waved his hand in his face, but that didn't bother Wiggins at all.

Another player I wish the Celtics would hand check or bump more often is Thompson. He took a number of shots where he received no contact at any time before he shot the ball. None.

Many times when a Celtic player drove through the lane the Warriors would collapse. Inevitably someone would move closely into the player and hand check with one hand while a number of players would swipe at the ball. This led to a number of poor shots and turnovers.

The Warriors firmly hand check even when guarding a stationary player dribbling or holding the ball - one hand firmly on the back, the other swiping or poking away.

It seems the intent with this sort of defense is two fold 1. Confuse/irritate the player with the ball  2. Throw him off balance ever so slightly so that he takes a bad shot or throws the ball away.

My recommendation is to fight fire with fire. Just do the same. They don't have any problem pushing Jason. He shouldn't have any problem doing likewise.

Of course, my Don Quixote self hasn't given up on playing Aaron Nesmith with the starters from time to time. He adds athleticism and can drive to the hoop better than White, Prichard or Grant Williams. And, he doesn't have any trouble getting his shot off inside the lane. Something both Prichard and White have problems with.) I don't want him shooting 3's - just drive to the hoop or shoot jumpers close to the lane.

Yeah, I know it's too late in the season to experiment, he goes for the fakes, he's an erratic shooter, etc. I just feel he would add another dimension to this team that they are lacking against this Warrior team. (No need to comment on my Nesmith idea. I've read them all in my previous post on him.)

The need for the Js to driving into traffic is just mind boggling..you arent Giannis who defy the odds and can do that...why cant the Js just rise up for the pull up or a floater for example.

KD is very good at this and is infact the best player in doing so..JT can just get the switch he wants and do this if he is having trouble with Wiggins.

Al also needs to post up more and get to the middle and rise from there with a jump hook or a slight fade where he is money.

Our offense has been figured out by Kerr that he knows our plays will always come from the top with a dribble drive into traffic...our players never cut, they just wait for the kick out which when done in traffic ends up in a turnover leading to an automatic 2 points by GS.

This team is what it is. I'm kind of tired of complaining. I'm not talking about hearing other people complain, I literally mean my effort. Feel it's a waste of my energy. These guys are going to do what they want and nothing I say here is going to change it.

How does this get fixed? For five years we watched a team that just reverts to unorganized, confused offense. They had over an entire month of playoff BB to learn you can't turn the ball over. Yet they leanlrned nothing.

During the last half of the season it appeared they finally woke up shed the bad habits. Looks like those habits just went dormant.

I can handle losing if we just get beat. Losing like this is hard to swallow.
Back to wanting Joe fired.

It’s even less complicated. Limit unforced turnovers. That’s it. That’s the entire thing.

To be honest, I never expected them to get this far, so I’m just glad I still have a team playing.

I’ll continue to say this team needs a real point guard, a third scorer, and a bench.

Yep. Playing like a g league team and handing a championship over to one of the more average finals teams that came out of the weakest western conferences in recent memory is definitely hard to swallow

It was all right there on a silver platter.
To lose the steph curry game? Fine.
To lose the next game when he is essentially a no show and get punked by Andrew Wiggins and Jordan poole?
Shame on you

said this a couple of times during the game.  it's an obvious way to get an easy shot rather than bulldoze into multiple defenders resulting in either a stripped dribble or picked off pass.

Pretty much. Whether it’s nerves, BBIQ, or just overall fatigue, the Big Three of JT, JB, and Smart simply have to do better at controlling the ball and not turning it over. It’s literally as simple as that. If you don’t turn it over, then put halfcourt D is good enough to limit their scoring enough to win, but you just give them easy pints every time you turn it over.

2 things:

1. GET A REAL PG this offseason. It's not working with Smart as the primary PG and ballhandler. Doesn't even need to be an All-Star or an expensive one. Just need a PG who can facilitate better and not make careless turnovers like every other possession

2. Get another solid depth big in place of Theis. Hate to say it but Theis just looks cooked nowadays and is basically unplayable in a lot of these postseason series

I know people will argue we need additional scoring and wing depth behind the Jays but I put that as like our 3rd priority. The two above to me are the bigger ones. I'm also still a believer in Nesmith being a bench option for us down the road. I hope we're patient with him for at least one more offseason like we were Grant Williams and Pritchard (and look how that turned out).
