Smart with an idiotic comment, saying fans "didn't believe in them" earlier in the season and then "jumped back on the bandwagon."

And whose fault is that, Marcus? You guys weren't passing the ball, weren't playing defense,  and were losing to teams fielding multiple gleaguers in the starting lineup.

I mean, he's not wrong. People gave up and wanted to trade really good young players who were learning how to win and lead.

I always believed in the team's potential,  and i never wanted to trade our core. But they were not playing hard or together,  and the general criticism was justified.

Marcus blaming the fans is absurd. Take accountability.

marcus might be channeling a bit of tom brady, creating internal motivation by conjuring disrespect that needs to be revenged. whatever it takes, marcus…

Sure. I just don't agree with the sentiments though.

yeah, i’ve posted as much in other threads; the criticism WAS warranted. if marcus needs a perceived slight to fuel his play in the finals, so be it.

Problem wasn't the shots smart took, the problem was they milked the clock too much just like they did in game 5 against the Bucks.

They played the NBA version of prevent defense. Go for the kill and play further win instead of not to lose.
Back to wanting Joe fired.

  • GOT IT!!!
Lowry is now on the top of my s list. What a grifting bum he was in this series. Foul baiting isn’t basketball. The league needs to do something about it for once.

Agreed. The way he plays the game at this point in his career is reprehensible

Marcus should drive and shoot a floater or look for a shooter in future in similar situations.

Lucky escape.

Wow, so good to be back in finals, but we are going to need to tune up our offense if we wanna win.

Honestly, the 3 misses from long were really difficult to watch.  Had he hit one, which frankly he often does wide open in the 4th, it was game.  But he missed and would have been the cause if C's had lost.  Clutch FTs though.

Really glad for the extra day of rest between each game in the Finals. This team will need that.   Is Rob not healthy or has he been overwhelmed by the intensity of the moment?  Rest big guy - C's need the real Rob in the next series.  If he is the difference maker he can be, C's have a decent chance.

Marcus continues to make the wrong decision too often on offense - it looked like he had finally gotten past that, but when things get tight, he is just not good enough mentally to keep his composure and play the right way. Still goes for the J's as well.

Your last point about Rob Williams health is right on target. The only way I see us being able to beat Golden State is with a healthy Rob. He makes a very good defense a great defense when he is 100%. He is clearly still bothered by knee pain. Is it the post-surgery or the bone bruise that is limiting him right now ? Just the type of player who needs to be 100% physically to be effective.

Crummy comment.  In the foxhole, I want to be next to the guy who's a little rough around the edges, though.
In the foxhole, I want to be next to the guy who saves my butt.

As far as Smart's comment, I don't think the other Cs care about how Smart psyches himself up. He says some dumb things.

I HAVE LITERALLY NEVER SEEN A BIGGER IDIOT THAN MARCUS F***ING SMART IN MY LIFE. WHY THE F*** ARE WE LETTING HIM p--- THIS Edited for profanity.  Please do not do it again. GAME AWAY IN THE LAST 2 MINUTES

Yet.... he stepped up with the go-ahead free throws to seal the game for us. We don't win this series or game without Smart.
Im sorry but you cant reward players who do dumb stuff because of the final outcome. If Jimmy Buckets hits that 3 we are all crapping on smart for his boneheaded 3s. And it was all game. No way we should be happy with him taking the most shots (22) and more importantly the most 3pters (1/3 of our attempts as a team). It was clear miami wanted him to keep bricking and we fell for it and survived by the skin of our teeth. There were opportunities to swing the ball or take a closer shot and he refused.

Don't get it twisted, I love the dude and we dont win this series without him, but he was almost the mastermind of an epic collapse.

Billz, I may have found a kindred spirit on this board. I appreciate your perspective on the game tonite and on the right way to play basketball in general. One good play doesn't negate multiple bad decisions and the team had several down the stretch.

If Marcus doesn't launch three consecutive ill-advised shots (and the J's don't have turnovers on consecutive 4th quarter possessions), then we don't need the free throws at the end and we don't have our hearts in our throats watching Jimmy Butler's 3-point shot barely miss.
