Jay King: Marcus Smart has a mid foot sprain. Udoka said it’s “pretty tender and sore right now.” He will be listed as questionable for Game 1.

During his availability, Ime Udoka said Marcus Smart is questionable for Game 1 with a midfoot sprain he suffered during Game 7, & that Robert Williams won’t have any restrictions in Game 1. Udoka said before Game 7 Williams was available but he didn’t want to shift his rotation. – 1:54 PM

I don't have any data on this but I feel like Rob plays best when Marcus is on the floor too.

I guess this explains the walking boot mentioned last night.  Not ideal with only 1 game between every game.

We will be okay without Smart.

Such is the size of our advantage over MIA that we do not Smart to beat this Heat team.

I don’t know.  No Smart, a banged up and rusty Timelord, and a cold White.  I think that shrinks whatever gap there is.

Didn't we already win without Smart in these playoffs?

Woj said his MRI came back clean. Might not be as bad as we think. I'm guessing he sits a game.

I expect gm1 to be a dud anyway before we start up the buzzsaw.
Back to wanting Joe fired.

it is never good to be down a starter in the eastern conf finals.  we need everyone to be available to move on.
so the news sucks.  at least maybe he only misses one game.

Yeah, White just isn't anywhere near a healthy Smart in terms of consistent impact. There is a chance he comes out and hits shots a high rate, but that chance is 50/50 at best. I guess this would mean more minutes for Payton, and that could be really great, but I feel much better about a game against MIA if Smart is in the line-up. At least White should be able to play solid D and make the right pass.

Heat's Kyle Lowry: Not practicing Monday
Rotowire  3 HRS AGO
Lowry (hamstring) didn't practice Monday, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.

Lowry did manage to do some individual work on the side Monday according to head coach Erik Spoelstra, but after missing the last two days of practice, it appears he's unlikely to play in Tuesday's Game 1 against the Celtics. His official status for Tuesday will be clearer when Miami releases their official injury report, but for now it seems likely that he'll remain sidelined.

Kyle Lowry's replacement is Gabe Vincent.  Smart's replacement is Derrick White.  Beyond that though, Miami may have more guard depth overall with Oladipo and Herro off the bench.  We would have Pritchard and Nesmith ?? ??.  So yeah, losing Smart hurts us exactly where Miami is the strongest already.  Much better that Lowry is out also but still an issue with our very limited depth.

I'm thinking the same.  Game 1 is a game you might expect some letdown coming right off an emotional 7-game series and traveling to Miami.  If Boston somehow stays in the game and somehow steals it, great.  If not, it's to be expected -- team comes out restored and ready in game 2.  Of course I don't want to lose game 1, but I'm half expecting it and probably will be able to sleep Tuesday night if they lose.

Herro and Oladipo are both averaging more MPG than Vincent, so he is a starter in name only. Depth is definitely on MIA's side, so I am hoping Smart will at least be able to play a little.

I've been preaching depth all season but it's not as big a thing in the playoffs.  We also have guys that can play if called upon.

I don't mind Smart sitting out Game 1. With only a day off after every game and with how this series might go, we'll need him for sure down the stretch in the series. Also with the already short turnaround since Game 7 was just 24 hours ago, I wouldn't want to risk Smart getting even more hurt or something immediately.
