I don't get it? Grant and Horford are clearly the 2 best defenders against Giannis, but down the stretch Brown was on him 3 or 4 plays in a row.  Why let them do this?

It was a head scratcher for me....

We should have Batman exclusively guarding Giannis. Run the switches with everyone else, including doubling up on Giannis anytime he touches the paint.

Bad coaching. Ime was terrible today.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Grant had 5 fouls once that BS charge call was upheld.

What a coincidence that the guy best suited to defending Giannis got an absolutely indefensible charge call upheld with the game in the balance.

The switching of JB onto Giannis is a flaw of the switch everything system. Ime ought to adjust that for specific match-ups

Yep. This was the worst officiated game I can remember since game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals.

Giannis was just on today.  Didn't really matter who was guarding him, he just did whatever he wanted to do, whenever he wanted to do it.  There is a reason he is BY FAR the best player in the world.  He is just a man among boys out there.

But Zack Zarba is a giant among men.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I realize Brown isn't as bulky as Al and Grant, but I was surprised just how bad he was against Giannis. His thing is supposed to man defense and he was not only getting pushed out of the way, but also getting blown by.

Brown was hardly the problem in this game - he even hit his FTs - but it was rough seeing him targeted like IT out there.

You mean Mr. Bowling Ball?  Hey Mr. Ball, you are not going to get those non-calls every game.  Best player? ha.  Jokic is far more skilled and Embiid is as well.

With Giannis, given that the refs allow him to do what he does, you have to prevent him from getting his shoulder past you so he can just finish at the rim, and then there is one critical moment where he makes some other move, often a spin or the launch of a fallaway.

Jaylen did his job. Giannis didn't beat him. But if you want to stop him, you need some help to dig at the ball at exactly the right moment. At the end of the game we just gave him too long once he had slammed his way into the lane, and he got the shots he wanted and made them.

It is a good strategy during the game to not predictably double Giannis and allow the Connaughton or Allen or Matthews to get going shooting threes. But in the last two minutes, role players don't want to take those shots. We need to do something other than let Giannis get someone out on an island where no one can stop him.

I don't know if we were afraid of Giannis getting a head of steam toward the hoop while someone went under the screen or what, but I definitely didn't like it. He isn't a great shooter where he'll drill a 3 if you give him room, so Al going under the screen out by the 3 point line should be the way to go.
I'm bitter.

this post is just nonsense.  Giannis is without question the best player in the world. It isn't close
