So my question is what kind of night does the NBA want tonight?

The last two talking points have not been good.
Sat - Officials blowing calls in the game.   Flow of the game boring.
Sun - Fans (or just one fan) harassing and putting hands on Chris Paul's family

My hope, a game where they let the offensive players flow by cutting down on the grabbing and clutching,

Felger used to call the "Green teamers" the softest fan base in the area. I didn't agree with him, but now I do.

Many freaked out about Kyrie Irving hurting the fans feelings.

In this series, the Celtics lose a tough game, and it must be someone else's fault. Doesn't matter that Kris Middleton is hurt. Doesn't matter that the Celtics took way more FT's than Milwaukee.

I didn't like the outcome, and I want to blame someone!!!

Come on people, expect more from yourselves.

Agreed.  Hopefully the actual players are looking in the mirror and not at the officiating.  If i believed in the fix the way some here seem to I wouldn't watch another NBA game again -- and it would be an easy decision.   I don't know if a handful of blogging fans and radio callers represents the fanbase, but I hope not.  Psyched for the game tomorrow and hope the C's bounce back and take control of the series.

TPs for Neruotic and MSFC.  Complaining about the refs is the most surefire way to tell me you don't know anything about basketball without telling me you know nothing about basketball.  And like Neurotic said, if you truly believe the games are rigged, why do you watch?  Do you go on WWE chat rooms and complain about the refereeing on that night's Monday Night Raw steel cage match?  And also, 99.9% of the people that think the refs are corrupt think that they're team is the one getting the unfair deal.  Shouldn't that alone make you see how silly this is?  That you're clearly not looking at the game objectively?

I'd like to address this quickly too because it kinda rubs me the wrong way.

You realise that we're human, right? That there's people that do bad things like rigging games. Even at higher levels. That in the past, refs have been convicted for this. For betting on games they reffed or played in. Scandals happen.

I'm going to assume you're just trying to be dismissive but the "your opinion differs so you don't know anything about basketball" says more about your willingness to be ignorant (dismissing all evidence because "you don't know basketball") rather than actually considering possibilities.

.edit: apologies for adding those last 2 whole paragraphs through an edit.

Is there such a thing as bad publicity?

We're not in that head office. It's hard to say the why's and how's.

Especially if there's actual fixing going on. Because for example, I saw the Griz v Wolves series and thought "wow, they're letting EVERYTHING go".

You could take that a couple of ways. Are they just wanting some cool basketball? See some awesome hard-fought games? Do they want the young teams to go all out? Do they want small market teams softened up a bit for when they play the money making teams? Does someone important have money on a particular outcome? On a particular number of fouls being called? On a player to foul out? On someone to hit over a certain number of points? (the betting scandal possibilities are literally endless, with micro bets, and the returns INSANELY high)

There's so many ways you can go with this, if you wanna think conspiracies, that you won't know, unless you know.

I honestly don't care what type of game they call.  If they want to call it tight, great.  If they want to let the players play, great.  But call it evenly on both teams, for all players, throughout the entire game.

I will go to my grave knowing that we got jobbed on both of those plays.  It's wild that they're on the same player, at the same stage of the game.

personally, I think it has something to do with players deliberatly trying to get certain calls rather than defending/scoring properly. drawing charges/fouls has become a thing in recent years, bc pinning fouls on key players of course influences games.

that's what makes games hard to watch... and puts refs in a tough spot as well.

but yes, refs were terrible... as they were with the Dal/Phx game...

I bet, if you'd go frame-by-frame, in a playoff game, you'd fine at LEAST 40 no-calls that could've been fouls.

And I don't know how you even out 20 missed calls with "but it's the playoffs".

And I'd love to see someone do this, meticulously, and show the difference in how each player is treated.

per past whistleblowers this is all fluid and things can change from the league at any given moment. they MAY prefer boston win tonight and want a 7 game series. $$$  let's see what happens with the calls tonight with GIANNIS. he shoulda fouled out in first half last game. NBA would not allow that though for obvious reasons.

Yes and no.

First, it's hard to argue that there's no corruption, when there's been proven corruption.  The scariest thing is, nobody noticed it with Donaghy at the time, because refs influencing games through "discretion" or "incompetence" is so much a part of the game.

But, overall I agree with you.  Most bad refereeing isn't a deliberate conspiracy to pick winners and losers.

At the same time, I disagree that all bad refereeing is unintentional.  You look at the Kings / Lakers, or the 4th quarter of 2010 Game 7 compared to the rest of the game.  I just don't accept that the refs didn't put their thumbs on the scales.  It was so blatant that I don't know what to call it other than deliberate.

I think it would probably benefit the Celtics if they can get back to their ball movement ways.   Giannis will still get his way down by the basket.

I want to stress this too "in general".

Hence my reluctance to say "this team/franchise is favoured". I do believe humans are human, and prone to go gawk at how much of a beast Giannis is, instead of blowing the whistle when they should.

I do however really believe some series are being extended by refs.

And that Foster is a scumbag.

It's interesting that my two least favorite calls this season were both on Marcus Smart three pointers that could have tied the game with seconds left.

Smart's reputation of being a flopper is the reason he didn't get either call.
