It's interesting that my two least favorite calls this season were both on Marcus Smart three pointers that could have tied the game with seconds left.

* The Dallas game (KG retirement) where Marcus clearly got fouled (and it was called a foul on the floor) but the refs decided that "the hand is part of the ball".

* The three pointer to tie it against Milwaukee.

I will go to my graving knowing that we got jobbed on both of those plays.  It's wild that they're on the same player, at the same stage of the game.

Smart's reputation of being a flopper is the reason he didn't get either call.

Smart's reputation as not a super star is the reason he didn't get either call.

Guarantee Steph gets that call 100% of the time as well.

I don't consider Steph a pro flopper :]

CP3 the guy who fouled out with 9 minutes to go in the fourth last night?

Or is this just part of the ever-shifting narrative, because he needed to foul out as 'the league wanted to extend the series'?

I might be talking about a different play. I'm speaking about the foul that should've been  3 FT instead of 2.

After the game:

Quote
"Their explanation is if they don’t fall down, they don’t call it," Udoka said of what officials told him. "I got to teach my guys to flop a little more." ...

"It was a foul," Udoka said of the call on Smart. "He caught the ball, he was turning into a shot with both feet set. You can’t say that's a sweep like that when you’re going into a shot. Poor call. Poor no-call.

"You can clearly see it in person and I saw it on the film just now. He’s curling into a shot and getting fouled on the way up. It's a shot. Bad missed call."

Now:

Quote
The Boston Celtics head coach said after a narrow 103-101 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks that his team prides itself on playing through things, but there were moments he noticed the C's complaining to the refs to their own detriment and that he should be the one to talk to the officials.

"We gave up two or three baskets I noticed where we were complaining a little bit to the refs and they're coming down and getting 3s," Udoka said. "As much as they're going to let you play, we've got to play through that and have our composure. If they're going to call it that way, consistently on both ends, we've got to play through it."

"We invite physicality and don't want to be the team crying about it," Udoka said.

He's right on both points.  The officiating was bad, particularly on that Marcus call.  But, the game was decided by two points, in a game where we gave up an uncontested three due to complaining rather than playing defense.

I agree with Roy. The game was not officiated well, and the Celtics weren't able to overcome their frustration in a tight game. They should be focused more on the next play versus the last play.

I'm ok with fans losing their composure during a period of adversity, but I sure hope the players aren't buying into this victimization narrative.

Giannis is an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime player that deserves the players' respect. Using outside excuses (such as refs) can give the players the idea that "the game is rigged, so why should I even care"?

I'm not ready to quit on the NBA (or the Celtics), and I want to see their best effort tonight, regardless of outside influences beyond their control.

In a game we went to the line 34-17, on the road.

What. I learned about the last game was this: the referees were terrible. They definitely cost the Celtics the game. Was it through incompetence, superstar favoritism or deliberate rigging of the game? We will never know for sure. Heck, it might be all three.

But the Celtics still had the game in hand late and let it slip from their grasp. Tatum was awful. There were two threes late that could have put the team up 4 and sealed the win that didn't go in. Besides Tatum; Smart, Jaylen, Grant and Pritchard were beyond bad from three. And the team wouldn't have had a close game at the end if every player who was on the floor in the third didn't absolutely suck.

So it can be true that the refs had a very real effect on the game's outcome, but it's also true if the Celtics players played better, the game was there for the taking, regardless of how hard the refs tried to give the game to Milwaukee.

Lastly, Bucks fans were complaining too and had every right when you look at some of the calls that went Boston's way. There were a bunch of no calls and bad calls that didn't go their way as well.

Yup

https://official.nba.com/l2m/L2MReport.html?gameId=0042100213

Remember when The NBA was going to release a whole game report for every game but it was clear how bad the refs were?

This is all true, but I will say the one with smart just particularly irks me. I feel like they are making that decision out of ego and not by what the rule book says. Smart clearly isn’t doing a rip through with 4.5 seconds left down 3. We are obviously shooting a three. The ref just didn’t feel like calling it, maybe influenced by the home crowd or just not feeling the Celtics deserved to have a chance to tie there.

That one I hated the most too. And I hated that the 2 minute report justified the not shooting foul but did so for reasons that were different than what the refs said. Refs said it was a sweep through foul. League office said it was a foul before the attempt so on the floor foul. Ridiculous.

Forget the refs-  time to make trades to get genuine bucket getters and no more bricklayers - this is silly. Get a star and youll have respect - no respect when no stars and either way we got no scorers when it matters sadly - if you could score then youll get the ref call too..
