The last decision Woj and Greenie discussed was the ballooning of the Nets salary and luxury tax commitments next season. “They’re going to be approaching next year $345 and $350 million next year,” said Woj talking about the combination of salary and taxes. “That’s where Golden State is at this year: the highest salary and luxury tax payments in the league. Brooklyn is going to be in that neighborhood if they keep this team together.”

With an aging KD and a couple of POSs for their Big 3.

The probably have to attach a first rounder or brown to get rid of Harris who is making 18 million. Obviously if Simmons doesn’t play his contract is a disaster (which is very possible). Aside from that though irving and Durant are on fine contracts and they don’t have much else committed. Curry is on a pretty good deal for them.

Irving has a player option.  It's Kyrie so anything is possible but he's almost certainly going to opt out to get a long-term max deal.  Brown is going to be an unrestricted free agent so he's going to get a nice salary bump.  If Kyrie and Mills opt in, they'll be at 158M for 9 players.

Doesn’t seem like this disagrees with anything I said. They have to move Harris. Kyrie and durant are on reasonable contracts for perennial all stars (kyrie becoming more erratic could also become an issue). Unless you are suggesting irving leaves then and goes somewhere else? Mills has a reasonable contract at 6 million which they can also easily movie if they want to. It’s just not that crazy of a cap situation compared to the other teams around the league. It just becomes a disaster if simmons can’t play and is making 35 million.

A healthy Nets team next season is totally scary. Glad to be the ones to take down the lions in these playoffs.

Simmons breathing a huge sigh of relief now that the Cs finished off BKN in 4. He was running out of excuses and may have had to suit up at some point.

I do wonder if they ever get healthy. Durant and Kyrie have had lots of difficulty getting on the floor recently (some of it self-inflicted), and Simmons has become a complete enigma.

I think Harris will have a pretty good market if his medicals check out.  Teams always need elite shooters and he will have only just turned 31 when next year starts, so you would expect him to recover just fine from his injury (and he should still be effective shooting into his late 30's like Korver was).  Not sure what type of trade would make sense, but I do think the Nets could get something decent (and cheaper) for Harris.

The next CBA negotiations in 2023-2024 will be UGLY. Stephen A. ranted about it yesterday and he's right, the owners will (rightfully) point to Simmons, Rich Paul and Klutch to create some sort of "Ben Simmons Rule" to stop guaranteeing all the money in contracts and de-incentivizing players for missing games. It will screw a lot of NBA players especially those that aren't stars and they'll (Simmons + his camp) get hated for it.

And I hate to say it, but I'd side with the owners there. At some point this whole "player movement" needs to be controlled more going forward. I mean, right now it seems things will be okay but what if we see Zion try to demand a trade this offseason to a bigger market even though he's on a rookie deal currently. That'd be another piece of drama to the situation

If I'm the owners, I'd come up with a proposal that doesn't adversely impact the bottom 90%+ of players.
