So if Kyrie gets fined, should the same happen to identified fans? I don't know if anyone saw the video of Kyrie walking into the locker room at halftime. He was minding his own business and a fan yelled "You suck Kyrie!". Kyrie responded with a pretty vulgar response. Should there be some repercussion for that fan?
Well Kyrie should get fined, at least 15-25k based on precedence. https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=nba+max+fine+for+abscene+commnt+to+fan&ia=web (Notice Marcus made the list)
Fans certainly should be held accountable. Ejections, bans from the Garden, loss of season tickets are all possibilities. If "all" the fan said was "Kyrie you suck" I think there will be no penalty. Celticsstrong has a conservative language policy and this wasn't censored.

LOL if we're really giving out punishments for saying, "player, you suck" then most of these arenas would be empty by now

I agree, but there must be a line somewhere.
If a fan yells "Kyrie you suck" and Kyrie responds "You suck" I don't think he gets fined.

If a fan yells "do you need LeBron" and Kyrie responds "I got you a championship and you still don't %%@@# appreciate it" He got fined.

some of the fans crossing a line with a you suck chants or F Kryrie should attend a game in Philly as a Celtic fan and see if any lines are crossed. If fans start to get “censored” then arenas will indeed empty and no one will watch basketball. It’s not what the league can get away with. Either deal with it or find another profession.

Yeah but if it's the other way around too, the fan gets kicked out and probably gets kicked out of the arena for life.

Look up the Lebron, Pacers incident courtside.

I'm not disagreeing with you, there should be a line drawn but this has also gone on for a long time (the trash talking) and some arenas are really rowdy. What makes this situation more bizarre is NO ONE has acted the way Kyrie has with the middle fingers, postgame comments, etc.

But they have. See my link above. AD, Kuzma, Durant, Smart, and Kyrie himself, all since 2019. They have all been fined between 15 and 25k.
In the past they have all been 1 offs, usually at the end of a game. What is different this time is Kyrie allegedly had  multiple flip-offs and an obscene language at halftime. Also Kyrie was fined 25k last Thursday for media availability infractions. Also as far as I know he's the first to have two incidents in the same season.

Does anyone know what Bobby Mark's 50k max means? Is it for a single "player misconduct" violation? Could Sunday constitute multiple violations, each subject to the maximum?

I predict 35k fine. An escalation above precedent meant as a warning shot.

Star players get the most money and star calls,

What goes along with those perks is behavior and accountability to their employers and NBA

The bigger the star the more the hurt

150k would not be unfair .   And like repeater TAXES ….it goes up 50K per fine and your tossed out 1-3 games after that.   See if he messes with fans during a game then.

There is nothing to scare the Lebrons and Kyrie types into behaving correctly.

I believe he has also been fined for swearing at fans in Cleveland. Would be surprised if he is not given a fine and a warning to knock it off. Would also expect heightened security and a quick hook for any fan crossing the line.

There is this thing called the CBA that might make this impossible

Correct. I don't know if there are any repeat offender clauses that allow the league to go over the 50k (reported) max.

Hadn't thought of Artest. Perhaps that's a cautionary reference.

Yeah, that is what you want to avoid. And while each incident on its own is something that does happen occasionally in the NBA, I really can’t recall a time there were three incidents by one player in the same game (would love for people to stop the nonsense and actually refute this with an example if it is inaccurate). You couple that with Irving’s comments that he wants to look these people in the eye “to see if they are about it” which I think can only be referring to escalating it physically and a lot of 7 years olds could understand the NBA doesn’t want it continuing with 3 more incidents game 2. I’m honestly completely baffled by the posters arguing this is common and happens all the time. It just flat out isn’t. Yesterday wasn’t a horrible moment for the league or anything but I am absolutely positive nobody from the league, nets or Celtics wants to keep going down that path to see where it goes.

I agree. This isn’t like Bridges throwing his mouthpiece or Melo complaining about someone calling him “boy”. This was a sustained back and forth and is potentially on the path to escalation. Fans, for sure, have a part in it but Kyrie, being the celebrity and the one being paid millions to play a game, needs to be able to withstand it.

Granted, I don’t think Kyrie is about to go into the stands because (to quote him) I don’t think “he’s about it”. But because the NBA is a product, the league would be right to sanction him. And sanction him multiple times for multiple incidents throughout the game.
