Did Theis gain weight?.He got beat to the rim and his attempted blocks were just a fraction late. .He looks demoralized not nearly as active. His motor wasn't there his fouling out didn't help
Is the pace of the Celtics offense leaving him in the dust. His timing seems off compared to my memory of him.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I've been thinking this, as well. He looks a tad bit heavier, or at the very least more lumbering. I am still happy to have him and think he can provide solid minutes in the rotation, but I'm hopeful he goes on the Grant Williams diet this offseason. Perhaps playing in HOU just gave him like zero motivation to continue with his conditioning. He is also 30 years old now and that is an age where guys need to work a little harder on their bodies to maintain peak athleticism.

Too much time watching Time Lord has effected our ability to see other Center's speeds?

I think this is it.  Theis looks the same to me but his athletic limitations are more apparent after watching Timelord.

Theis !! Is a victim of Houston and good bbq he’s definitely a little heavier . However I don’t think it’s affected his game much he never been a high flyer like that . Average at best

He's nearly 30 and has had knee troubles for a few years. He might have tried to get stronger to counteract natural slowing down.

Not everybody can age like Al

He's not physically slower, but his reaction times aren't as crisp as they were last year when he had Brad's full confidence and he had played with the current group for more than a season.

Al really is a marvel. Probably the biggest thing I got wrong this year was that I didn’t think he’d have much left in the tank; thought he would give us maybe 15 minutes a night and be a pretty limited player. Nope. He’s really important to what we do, especially on D. The fact that he does fine switched onto players like Ja Morant is mind-blowing.

Yeah, different offense and different defense.
