If Tommy was alive, he'd probably have given Smart a Tommy Point for that play.
Not probably. For sure. TP to you for the Tommy props.

He absolutely would have.  No doubt.  Tommy loved Marcus.

Man, I missed Tommy.

I've seen a couple of morons who's advocating to ban the dive for loose balls. As if the league isn't soft enough already
Sports in general have made a lot of rule changes recently to make the sports more safe.  I can totally see how that could gain some momentum as we've seen time and time again players get hurt when another player dives for a ball and makes contact with their lower legs.  Curry is just the latest example of it.  The league should be looking at making the game safer and if that means making it a foul if you contact with someone diving for a ball, then maybe that should be considered.  Maybe it is even a flagrant.  If you want to dive for a ball, then maybe you should have to make sure you don't ram into someone when doing it.

That’s just silly.  It’s a loose ball.  Should we eliminate rebounding?  That’s easily as dangerous, probably more, than diving for a loose ball on the floor.  You can catch elbows in the face and land on feet.

You shouldn’t make a rule change based on low-occurrence events (diving for loose ball injuries).
Should we eliminate rebounding? Ha ha. I love it. TP. Maybe they should change the game to team HORSE.

Yeah.  I think he was probably a big reason why I kept watching during the mid-90s onward.  He could make even bad basketball fun.

Sadly, Mike is nearing his end, too.  76 years old.  I hope younger fans enjoy him while they can.

Is there a compromise position here?

Obviously, there are going to be loose ball fouls.  If a ref finds unnecessary or reckless contact to knee or lower, should it be a flagrant?  If we protect the head, maybe we should protect the knee?

Marcus’ situation wouldn’t apply.  That’s a clean play.  But, if somebody went through a guy’s knee after he secured possession?  Flagrant.

The risk is that refs would overly apply it and it would make the game softer.

Is that actually a new rule tho?  Kerr wanted the refs to review it for such a flagrant, meaning he already thinks it’s covered.

Yeah.  It would be one of those “point of emphasis” things we see.

There's some irony here considering that some of the most iconic imagery in Celtic history concerns hustle plays just like Marcus did the other night.

I never saw much of Tommy until I went to college in the Boston area... at first I hated him cause he as obviously such a big homer, that it made all the analysis ridiculous. Don't know when, and I figure it didn't take too long, I started to love him. Really miss him.

With that in mind, who was the last player to receive a Tommy Point?

Sad to see Mike in the end of his run as well, he's awesome and probably the most underrated play by play guy in the business.
