Wow. After everything that’s been said, he genuinely still wants to come back to Boston. At one point he even says that he was disappointed that Brad hasn’t made the call, and it’s not like there was no effort on his part to basically say that he wanted to return. I’m a huge IT fan, but there must be some reason why Brad doesn’t want him back. Thoughts?

I continue to want IT back in Boston and am disappointed they went with both Martin and Fitts.  I’ve made the argument many times, but I hope this stops the common rebuttal I’m given of “Do we even know IT wants to be here?”

Brad and Ime are jettisoning everyone who can't play defense, I guess with the exception of Stauskas and the two-way guys.  IT wouldn't get any playing team under Ime.

I still would like him back, if for no reason other than a mascot.

Don’t you think it’s quite awkward though that he’s talking about wanting to have the chance to come back to Boston while currently being a player for the Hornets? It feels like his emotions got over him. I was expecting something like “I’m with Charlotte now, let’s talk about this team” or something.

I can understand management's perspective. IT was an all-star level player last time we saw him in Boston. Now, he would be a 3rd stringer who regularly receives DNP-CDs. I love the guy for what he brought to the Cs, but bringing him back under those circumstances seems super awkward, and I don't think it would be best for the team or the player.

Brad's building a roster whose primary identity is defense, and IT is one of the worst defenders in league history. It doesn't make a lot of sense to bring him in, other than as an end of the bench guy to be a positive voice in your locker room.

All I can say is that it just tells you how much he wanted and still wants to be on this team, with no expectation of minutes or role.  I don't know why you wouldn't want that guy as someone on your roster, instead of cycling through players we won't remember twelve months from now.

Tomorrow's game will be a bit weird after those comments tho.

He somewhat touched on that by saying he could help the team even if he wasn’t playing.

I agree with you and would love to have him back. But just like he said, for some reason this reunion hasn’t happened. Maybe Brad knows something that we don’t?

I enjoyed his time here but I'm not interested in bringing him back.  He's not good enough to actually contribute at this point in his career, and the player-mascot thing has always felt uncomfortable to me.

If he would have been fine waving a towel and occasionally getting cheers as a novelty act at the end of uncompetitive games, then good on him.  Guess I don't see the point.

He knows that IT can’t play any defense, just like Kemba couldn’t. The C’s identity is being an elite defensive team and he just doesn’t fit in with that.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

We just signed Nik Turnstile Stauskas to a 2-year deal, so that argument doesn't make a ton of sense.

he was a real weak link on D when he was here despite his best efforts.  I understand if that's why he's not being brought back but if he's still got 60-70% of his offensive skills from that time, he'd be worth bringing in as an end of bench guy that's more than capable of running our offense when either Smart or White are out and PP is not having a good shooting night.

Nik is a 3pt specialist and he’s 6’6”. He’s not a 33 year old 5’9” guard who is just an average shooter. I loved watching IT when he was in Boston years ago, but he couldn’t catch on with the Lakers this year and they are a dumpster fire. Sadly, I think his days in the NBA are over.

The Cs roster isn't deep enough to have an Udonis Haslem like player/coach. Especially when we have player like Al that fills that role. Every roster position the IT might take is a developmental roster spot for bigs/wings. It seems like the Cs have prioritized shooters with size for development spots.

I loved watching IT play but I don't see him coming back to Boston. His best fit is as a deep bench player on an older/deeper team that needs a 3rd PG. He'd be a 4th PG in Boston.
