With the signing of Stauskas and two 10-day contracts to Martin and Fitts, the Celtics are now roughly $660k under the tax, with the bonus assumptions in the OP still holding.  Converting Fitts and Martin to rest of season deals would cost $490k, meaning those two could both be re-upped at the conclusion of their 10-days without running into the tax.  About the only thing the C's are unable to do is sign two veterans to 2-year deal (like Stauskas) at the conclusion of the 10-days.  They could ultimately sign two such players, but would have to wait a few days after the 10-days expire to sign both.

It looks like Stevens and Zarren will land the plane outside the tax.  Hopefully they're given a different runway next year.

Which bonuses did you assume, again?  Or rather, which ones did you not assume?

It's Jaylen's 65 games, 49 wins, and second round clauses, plus White's 70 games played plus All-Defense?

I think White making All-Defense is probably a hail mary at this point.

I agree about White, but I’m pretty sure the C’s don’t want to lose out on $11 million in luxury tax payments because of the complete randomness of All-Defense voting.

I feel like White probably doesn't play enough minutes to get consideration does he? He seems to play about 25 a game and I think if Anything Payton and Smart will get the same moments next year (to say nothing of us adding any new guards.

He played 30 minutes a game with San Antonio for 2/3 of the season.  He's got 500 more season minutes than a guy like Thybulle.  I don't think he'll get it because there are only so many spots to give to guards, and it feels like Smart will be the Celtic guard represented (deservedly so in my opinion).  But the narrative of the Celtics defense is strong, and he had a good reputation in San Antonio, so you never know.  I'd put it at under 10%, but I would be shocked if we saw the C's make a signing in the next week or so that presumed he wasn't going to make his $250k bonus.

I've been playing around with the numbers a bit on next season. From what I see, if the Cs are able to replace Theis with a reliable 4th string big man on a minimum contract or almost minimum contract, by my math, we would be 2.9 million under the tax with 12 players on our roster. Signing Begarin and one minimum guy would keep us under the tax at 14 players.

I'd rather keep our top 8 in tact and have a bunch of minimum guys we try to develop than trade one of the top 8, particularly because that top 8 is one of the best top 8 in the NBA.

I think Theis is more likely the replacement for Horford than he is to be replaced himself, although this is subject to change if we get to the finals/win and Horford’s guarantee increases.

Like I said, I don't think you tinker with the top 8 with the way they are playing. Theis is the most expendable.
