Best fit at the deadline was Sabonis. Would’ve fit in perfectly next to Williams and was a big position of need. Stevens missed out here. I would’ve done whatever it took (within reason) to add the two time all star.

I’d give up JB depending on the type of first round picks they’d give up along with Sabonis.
Would’ve liked Holliday in the package as well. But could we land him without JB ? Couldve, would’ve, should’ve….
Smart, Grant Williams, Romeo or Richardson (their choice) + 2023 unprotected first round pick + the pick swap (given to San Antonio) for a Sabonis package ? I think that deal would’ve been close, but you never know.

Sabonis is the perfect fit to this roster. I definitely would give up JB if the package would’ve been right.

f you are Indy and can get Haliburton and Hield, do you say "no" I'll take Smart, Grant, and Romeo/Richardson, a late first and a swap that may never happen?

I doubt it -- I think you'd need Brown.  And then you'd leave a hole as big as the one you filled.

Pretty much this.  I'm not sure if Halliburton is a franchise cornerstone, but he's at least a #2, and I know having him under contract for two years after this on his rookie deal, followed by a likely 4-5 year extension/new contract is far more valuable than Marcus Smart.

Sabonis for Hofford.  That was the trade I was willing to make.

I'm not gonna lose sleep over a non-shooting big who can't anchor an elite defense.

I don’t see him as significant better than RobWill .  Time may prove the opposite should Williams  be able to keep his knees , hips and ankles healthy .

We need a knock down three point shooter

It’s all about fit. Sabonis is an all star and a big. We’ve proven we can add decent wings. Smart, Brown, Tatum…..4 & 5 men (positions) are harder to come by. That’s why I don’t view Brown as a huge hole to fill. Especially since Smart can guard up at Browns position.

Besides, Tatum has the ball in his hands more than Brown. You turn to Jason, not Brown. Sabonis screening, passing, and rebounding is a better fit for this team. He’s exactly who we needed to get better.

I see him as a great fit next to RobWill, as Sabonis needs help defensively. His passing sets him apart, as he’s close to Jokic and Embiid in that aspect. A big who’s got point guard passing skills. Then add in the automatic double/double he provides at the power forward position.

Count me in for Justin Holiday as your knock down 3 point shooter (38%). Also plays great D. Very underrated. A Sabonis/Holiday type package was doable if Brad wanted it. Settled for mediocracy instead in White, and gave away a first & a pick swap in the process. Not good enough

He was a poor fit next to Turner who at least could stretch the floor. He’d have been worse fit next to Rob and would have hurt our defense.

The obsession with Sabonis on this site is really quite odd.

I like Sabonis but the Pacers got a haul for him. Trading JB for Sabonis would be absurd to even think about. We wouldn’t have been able to come close to the offer the Pacers settled on.

I agree while he is a productive NBA player he has never performed in the playoffs and is at best a neutral defender.

His career stats are remarkably similar to Kanter/Freedoms with Sabonis being an inferior rebounder but superior passer.

He is a very good NBA player and fringe all-star but to even think about trading Brown for him is a major mistake when trying to building a playoff winning NBA team.

Exactly my thoughts.
Sabonis is a good player, but not the right fit for this team and coaching philosophy.
We want to be able to switch, and play versatile defense. That is our current identity.
Sabonis can't contribute in that regard. White can.
