If we win a championship with Smart on roster, retire jersey?

If they win it all some time in the future with Smart part of that team AND Smart is here at least another 4-5 years, then I'd probably say yes.

DJ is certainly not the comp. DJ was as steady and reliable as they come, and was an All-Star.

Rondo is more deserving of a retirement than Smart, and I don't think Rondo should get one (which kills me, as a Rondo fan).

A decent comp might be Larry Siegfried who played 7 seasons with the Cs and won 5 championships. Siegfried didn’t get his number retired.

The title threshold needs to be a lot lower for players today than back in the 50s-60s when there 9 teams in the league.  And clearly it is as KG and Pierce have been honored.

But if Smart is here a few more seasons and wins a title to go with a few more All-Defense honors, I think he’s given the honor.  10 years, 4-5 All-Defense honors and a title?  In the modern era, that’s a special career for a player with a single team.

The Celtics need to cool it with the retired numbers. It discredits the players that should be up there and in my opinion there are just a few that should be to begin with

Bird/McHale/Russell/Heinsohn/Lewis/Pierce/Havlicek/Cousy
