Obviously I'd be great to have him back, but just saying Al's value is extremely high right now.

Al won't be traded if they win these Finals, just saying.

If they win, he should be offered an 11 year deal like Udonis.

I think we leave him where he is. Absolute worst case scenario he's a huge expiring.

I doubt it, at least in terms of trade value (locker room and on-court, sure). Guy's 36, and that's no sort of secret. Hard to see anyone giving up enough for Boston to move Horford just for the sake of whatever picks/prospects come back.

The guy I've had my eye on for the last year is Johnathan Isaac. I know that immediately most people will roll their eyes at this, but hear me out.

I think he's a smart guy like Jaylen Brown, not a "smart" guy like Kyrie Irving. I think him missing this season was frustrating, and I disagree with him on the vaccine thing, but I don't think its the same as Kyrie Irving.

I think the Magic are going to be over stocked on their front line. They already have Carter on a long-term contract, they may resign Bamba (or not), they have Wagner, they will like Okeke, and there has been some reports that they may want Bol Bol. On top of that, they will undoubtedly select one of the top 3 front-court players as well. There's not a lot of room for Isaac. When you add that to his inconsistency and injuries, it makes sense that they may be ready to move him.

From what I've heard he didn't meet the guidelines for games played so his deal is now 16m a year for the next three years. That's really not a lot of money. It would be pretty easy to aggregate Theis and Nesmith to be able to trade for him. That gives the Magic a wing shooter to go with their driving guards and play-making forwards. More may be needed here.

I've gone through the why not and how, but now the why. I genuinely think he has the potential to be another all-defensive team player. Those guys just don't come available on his contract. The reason he is available is that he's a risk, but I think he's a worthy risk to go after. Pairing him with the Js, Rob Williams, and Smart would make us that much better defensively. Go watch the highlights of him defending Giannis or some of the top tier offensive forwards. The dude is not soft. He doesn't back down and makes real defensive plays against them.

On offense, he is unselfish and skilled. We would not need him to be a high-level scorer, but to be willing to move the ball and finish plays. I think his offensive game could develop into something like what John Collins currently is, with a little more playmaking/passing.

Probably not going to happen, but I definitely like the fit.

If they win, I wouldn't be surprised tp see him retire.  Time for his next steps, into coaching.  I just don't know what that does for the cap and his salary, I think it still hits our books.

Al's here next year regardless of the contract.  he's been key to getting to the finals and hopefully winning the title.   even if the C's weren't keen on keeping him, there's no realistic replacement for him on the team nor in free agency

Finally raise that #42 to the rafters - I mean it's been long overdue for Vin Baker

I’d be completely shocked to see him retire after this year.  He’s 36 and playing at a very high-level, not 40.

If Al retired, the Celtics would not be obligated to pay him and he would come off the books.  Sometimes teams choose to do so anyway, but that’s typically with smaller salaries than $26.5 million.  Alternatively, if he wanted to retire, he could delay doing so over the summer while the Celtics used his salary for matching purposes, and maybe getting a small buyout from a team that traded for him.

Yeah, Al doesn't strike me as the type of guy who wants to retire, and it goes beyond the $27 million.  I think he loves playing, loves being around the team, and would be bored as hell in retirement.

Agree.  I think they'll have a new contract that lets Al play as long as he wants to.
