He reminds me of Marcus Smart, in that you just can’t judge him by statistics. You have to see him play, to understand what he brings to a team. It’s difficult to have an opinion on a player like that, where you only see him twice a season, and playing for the opposing team.

Smart is the tank version and White more of the sports car...

He reminds me of Derrick White.   Comparisons are silly, each player is their own entity.

His age 27 stats line up well with Mike Conely.  White is a better defender and Conely is a better shooter, but not by much at that age.

He also reminds me a little of Jrue Holiday but not as good in any area. Poorman's Jrue.

Yup..but I think his hustle under control is something that could help Nesmith going forward?

Come on he's better than that!

They should change the title of this thread to D. White is D.White. Less discussion.

I think a great Celtic comp is the guy he is going to be playing alongside...Marcus Smart.

He isn't quite the defender Smart is, but he is a bit of a better shooter and plays at a higher pace. Other than those minor things, the similarities are abundant, especially in both players abilities to positively affect a game with stuff that doesn't always show up in the box score.
Agreed. Question is, can they play together in the starting lineup? I think they cancel each other out on the offensive side of the ball. They are far too similar. We cannot afford to start 3 unreliable shooters (White, Smart, Timelord).

Was never in favour of trading Smart. I am now. I think he's become expendable after the White trade. It's a waste of talent to have a 16-million player coming off the bench.

Horford shoots worse than Smart or White.

Horford shoots worse than Smart or White.

Not just shoots worse but is also far slower, a far worse ball-handler, a worse driver and a less creative passer. White and Smart both bring much more team offense to the table due to their quickness, handles and passing ability. In addition to the shooting.

-----------------

But yeah, I agree with the general point that we still need more offense and preferably in that starting unit. I see trading Horford & picks for that player as the best option with one of Smart / White starting and the other one coming off the bench as a 6th man. That gives us 6 strong players with guys like Theis and G.Williams for further depth.

Due to the versatility of the Jays as wings or forwards and White & Smart as combo guards, the team would be able to trade for any position 1 through 4. You could build a team around a PG like Lillard, a SG like Beal, a SF like (I don't know. Hayward?), a PF like John Collins or Julius Randle and balance the lineup due to the versatility of the Jays and our combo guards.

---------------

So I would say (1) I do not view trading Smart or White as a necessity, but, (2) It is an option. I do agree that Smart is now easier to move. White is a smoother fit at PG. Less erratic (also less dynamic) more dependable.

If you ask me, he shouldn't be starting either (irrespective of his 3P%). Given that we run a switch-heavy defensive system, we'd be much better with a 3rd (s)wing instead of Horford. At this stage in his career, he isn't mobile enough to play D on the perimeter anymore.
