You add more bad shooters!

Theis 29% 3PT%; White 31.4% 3PT%

In fact, in the past month we've shed six out of our nine most accurate shooters:

1.  Bruno 100%
2. Jabari 50.0%
4. Freedom 40.0%
5. Richardson 39.7%
8. Schroder 34.9%
8. Langford 34.9%

I jest with Bruno, Jabari and Freedom, but we've added two guys who have shot worse from outside than Marcus Smart.

Thoughts on how we fix something like this?  Adding Pritchard to the rotation presumably would help.  Can Nesmith get it going?  Is this off-season the one where we finally trade Smart for John Collins, lol?

I don't know Roy, those top 3 seem kind of flukey to me

This might be a "table it till the offseason" type issue for them  :police:
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

Just don't shoot threes. Go full 90's era basketball with defense and off ball cuts.

White shoots like 48% from corner threes. I think his percentage will go up when he's almost exclusively catch-and-shoot.

But to answer your question, at this point we need to hope our current guys continue to improve their shooting. Tatum isn't THIS bad of a 3PT shooter. We gotta hope Pritchard or Nesmith can hit a few in their minutes.

Besides that I guess just look to the heavens and pray.

well, we won't be solving that issue by drafting a shooter this year will we?  the upcoming FA market figures to be pretty thin and C's won't be in a position to offer big money to a good one.  seems like he's really painted himself into a corner on how he can improve this team without giving up any of the top 8 players now.  I suspect Al and probably Smart will be on the block in the offseason but who is taking on Al and Smart still has his limitations (though he's working well in the team's system since returning to the lineup)

This was my initial reaction to the trades.  The team's most obvious need is shooting, and really offensive firepower in general.  I'm disappointed that this was not addressed.  Putting the ball in the hoop more will help us set our formidable half court defense.

Maybe PP sees a bit more time now that Schroder is gone.

Next 3 games

Denver
Atlanta
Philadelphia (with Harden)

will demonstrate whether we are a serious play off team, or fools gold whose bubble gets burst.

Is White playing for us tonight?

Don't forget Sam Hauserwitzer!!

Not sure we are "worse" because White has greatly improved recently.  And when Theis was with us before I thought he was pretty good.  I would actually be very pleased to see more running, cutting, driving, ball movement than just lining up for 3's all game.  It makes me sick.

Hope to goodness that Nesmith finds his shot and goes nuclear down the stretch.

I'm not sure what shooters are on the buyout market, but hopefully someone shakes loose and isn't scooped up by a contender.

2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

Goes back to what i said in the trade grades thread -- whether we got "good players" ignores that we got worse in a problem area.

Simple fact is the Cs need to: a) pick up / keep up the pace, and get more easy buckets, b) keep he ball more consistently in the half court to get easy shots, and c) not settle.... drive more / get into the paint.

White's numbers are down this year so hopefully they can get back to his norm.  Theis is a much better shooter then that.  He just came from the worst team in the league where he won't get the open shots he will here.

You learn to work the ball, get to the rim, push pace, seek-out open 3's and reliable 2's.

Lessen 3PAs: The Suns, Bulls, Sixers, Grizzles, and Cavs are in the bottom third in 3PA per game, which means that teams can sustain winning while attempting less threes.

The Smart-Brown-Tatum-Horford-Williams III lineup is 3rd in EFG% and TS% so there are ways around it. A less static offense, 3PA attempts, and ball sticking, and a more dynamic offense transition, cutting, passing, and shots at the rim can make it work.

The Celtics brass must be dedicated to changing the offensive culture because White embodies the dynamic offense qualities mentioned + Theis setting picks, shooting, or passing immediately. They’ve assembled a cast of low usage players to surround the Jays.

Maybe take higher percentage shots and stop jacking 40+ shots from 3pt each game. I’d start there.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Hoping he has a Terry Rozier break out performance.
