my biggest gripe, other than the fact we seriously overpaid, is that he's not a real offensive threat.  Schroder could go off for 20 in a game as could Richardson.  White, not at all.

Richardson only scored 20+ twice all season.  White will start producing more I suspect.

yeah white had 9 20 pt games this season alone.

As a featured guy on a lottery team.

Featured?

11.6 FGAs in 30 minutes per game.  Murray was the featured guy in San Antonio.  White was part of a fairly balanced attack that saw he, Keldon Johnson, Lonnie Walker, Devin Vassell, Jakob Poeltl, and Doug McDermott all get between 9.4 and 12.7 shots per game.

30 minutes per game. A guy they wanted to trade, yes. You can feature more than one player when you are interested in trading several of them. He wouldn't have 9 20 point games for most teams this year.
If Boston had this roster earlier then White probably would have had more than 9 20 point games given all of the games Smart, Brown, and the big guys missed (thus moving Tatum more down low).  Look at how well Shroder played in his starts as an example.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Derrick White matched up with Patty Mills on 10 possessions and gave up 0 points

He matched up with Kyrie Irving on 6 possessions and gave up 0 points

The defense continues to be amazing, as this cool CelticsBlog article noted. So it's probably easy to cherry pick these stats for any individual player because the team is doing so well. But still, cool to see Kyrie scoring 0 points when defended by our new acquisition  .

Hey… certainly better than the alternative!! A couple of nights before, he was the only player on the team who was a minus (- 10, I believe) — which is hard to do.

1. I’d rather have White than JRich.
2. I think we gave the Spurs more in potential value than we got back.
3. If we go to the Finals this year or next and White is a contributor, I won’t care much. We have a window, and this is the time to overpay a little to get the guy you want.

Team high +22 tonight.  11 points, 8 assists, no turnovers, 2 steals and 3 blocks.

Pretty much the perfect game for a bench piece. Such a versatile guy

He was good tonight. Just need to see more of it. Really wish he wouldn’t take so many 3’s, though. Floaters or taking it to the rim are the way to go for White.

J Rich with 3 points and 2 assists tonight vs White’s 11 and 9 with 5 stocks. This one’s for everyone trumpeting Romeo’s 7 point night.

Since the trade deadline, the Celtics have the second highest offensive rating in the NBA, at 119 points per 100 possessions, behind only Milwaukee.  For the year they’re up to 14th, 0.5 points per 100 behind #10 Philly, and 0.5 points per 100 ahead of #18 Indiana.

Returns are early, but the trades don’t seem to have hurt the offense at all, and arguably have improved it significantly.

I think the offensive improvement is far more due to Tatum's explosion into a top NBA player than to those trades.

considering how much Mcdermott, Jones and Vassell bricked away in that game they should have let JRich take more than 2 shots.  still had 2 steals and 2 blocks which wasn't bad at all.

I agree to a point, but it also felt like Schröder killed Tatum’s rhythm whenever he came into games.

That's interesting phrasing, because it brings up one of the issues I had with guys like Richardson and Langford.  Is it that these guys get forced out of the offense, or is it that they are too passive and don't look for offense?

good point.  in Boston, Romeo was always stuck in the corner so he got limited shots and on those offensive trips where he wasn't in the corner, he almost always deferred to Tatum/Brown on offense.  JRich didn't defer as much so had more attempts and points.  To me, it's the offensive system used by both Brad and Ime that held back Romeo (when he wasn't out with injury).

Not as familiar with SA's offensive scheme but it does seem odd that a guy who can score just gets 2 shots (1-2 and 1-1 on 3's) in 19 minutes when other players on the team are bricking away.  we've seen it in Boston but did it happen in SA for the same reason -- cold players not getting the ball to teammates that aren't cold
