The guy on Celtics Blog hates the White trade. Saying it will ruin the team. Hot take...

CBS knows more about basketball than Neil Iyer and his 6 articles at Celtics Blog

Read some of his other stuff,

Double Big Lineups

I don’t understand why Ime Udoka was playing Grant Williams and Enes Freedom together when the Sixers were playing Andre Drummond as the lone big. It takes away any speed advantage the Celtics might have. Georges Niang and Tobias Harris got easy cuts to the basket. Why not give Aaron Nesmith or Romeo Langford some extended minutes? Langford had an impressive block on Embiid when he finally entered the game and the Celtics were able to quell the onslaught. Why not use Grant Williams as the five? There’s no way Drummond could stay with him on the perimeter, and if Doc Rivers wants to post him up on offense, have at it. Philly maintained its 20-point lead as Embiid took an extended rest in the second quarter.

rant Williams at the five on Embiid?   That ought to tell you all you need to know.

He is funny but it is not intentional

I thought it was a crazy hot take. In 6 years from now, Tatum and Brown are in their primes. It also lights a fire under management's ass to win now and build a contender!

Worth noting that these projections have him as a borderline all-star. His most similar comparisons are 2014 George Hill and 2020 Malcolm Brogdon.

Eh.  538 also says we have 17% odds of winning the title this year.  Their NBA predictions are suspect.

Seems high to me as well, but these are worth noting.

Just because you don’t agree with them doesn’t mean they’re suspect.  Of course, 17% also means it’s very likely not happening.

No, they’re suspect.  Nobody with a functioning brain thinks the Celts have 1:6 odds of winning the title.

I’ll happily give you 30:1 odds.  Seems like a bargain, no?

Betting odds are different than prediction models, because they are based on betting patterns and trying to make money.

Still, like I said, I don't disagree with you that 17% is too high. But Carmelo player values are widely used by fans and basketball minds. It's not some fringe model. It's been tinkered with for years and has merit and weight, even if its not the final-end-all-be-all way to evaluate players.

“Widely used” and legitimate are two different things.

Do you think FVV is the second best player in the NBA this season?  Tatum #4?  Jrue Holiday #11?

According to 538, Smart is 19th and White is 17th.  Championship!  The Spurs had three top-23 players.  Pops must be a lousy coach?

Their metrics are garbage.

If sports gambling were legal in my jurisdiction, I’d take 1:20 without blinking, and probably down as low as 1:12.  I think the version of the Celtics we’ve seen since Smart returned is championship quality, and replacing Schröder with White is next level.  I’m a little concerned about shooting, but I think the rest of the teams strengths make up for it, as shooting is more variable game-to-game than preventing good shots is.

I would just greatly appreciate it if White would cut off that mop. College is over dude, you're 27. Put down the bong and head for the barber shop.

Get rid of those sideburns, Mattingly

Omg I spit out my drink. Well deserved TP!

Seems high to me as well, but these are worth noting.

The East is in a pretty tight-race and with the Nets essentially out of the picture, the rest of the east teams aren't too unstoppable in a 7-game series. Maybe except for the 76ers post-deadline as on paper they should be in the NBA Finals but we'll see how they gel first.

As far as winning NBA title goes...nobody should really scare them except maybe the Warriors

This is given that the Celtics remain healthy the rest of the way and not one single injury happen lol

We'll see what happens. Still think they overpaid. BUT that was a nice debut by White!

I always loved the player but we'll see if the trade was worth it down the road (in terms of what we gave up)

Regardless of being overpaid, we now have a great piece, whether off the bench or in the starting line-up, that we didn't have before.

So if you take the cost out of it ... that's excellent for our future!

(Best bit imo; he's locked up for a buncha years.)

The only way it's an overpay is of we have to swap picks.  If we don't then the Cs won the deal.  I guess in 6 years or when someone invents a time machine will we know.
