Since Smart's return vs. the Wizards, the Celtics have averaged 311.9 passes per game, which is 4th in the NBA over that period, and 3rd on a per minute basis since some teams have had OT games to bump their totals. That passing would also be good for 4th overall if it were a full-season number. They are attempting 9.2% more passes over this period compared to the first three months of the season.
Hopefully this keeps up over the coming weeks. For whatever reason, it seems like the team has finally responded to the pleas of coaches to pass more. It remains to be seen if this will continue once competition improves and games tighten up, but it's a good sign that the right habits are finally being developed.
