I am not sure Donovan Mitchell is all that great with Jaylen and Tatum.

Unfortunately, this is a problem the Celtics will never have to worry about.

That there's a straight face discussion happening of how we're going to trade Smart and Richardson for Donovan Mitchell is absolutely comic.

Worse trades have happened but I agree that it would be a really unlikely and lopsided trade.

Unless Mitchell wants out of Utah I cant see the logic in the Jazz trading him and not Gobert. Mitchell is their only rotation level player under 26 years old.

Trading Gobert who is 29 in an attempt to reload an aging roster around Mitchell seems like the much smarter move.

Never going to happen and not a trade I would like to see the celtics make but this works and isn't out of this world terrible

Celtics get Gobert, Clarkson, Azubuike, and Kendrich Williams

Jazz get Horford, R Williams, Smart, Freedom, and Langford

Thunder get Ingles, Fernando, Celtics 2022 1st , Jazz 2nd via Memphis

Celtics starting 5: Schroeder, Richardson, Brown, Tatum, Gobert    off the bench Clarkson, Grant and K Williams

Mavs
Wiz
Hornet

For what it’s worth, Mitchell is denying having issues with Gobert.  I don’t frankly believe him, because they’ve had public problems in the past, but I also think he’s not going to push to have anything happen in the next week.

I thought all this stuff was in the past and put to bed. I reckon the reporter is just out of date with his "insight". I believe Mitchell that there is no rift here.

But it is fun to think about these trades so ....

Simmons for Mitchell makes a lot of sense for both teams. Let's just hope it never. happens.

Rob Williams and a whole load of picks for Rudy Gobert would be a pretty good return for Gobert if Utah decided to blow it up.

I am not sure Gobert has great trade value being a defensive star with a limited offensive game. I don't think the trade market will be as strong for him as an offensive star. Add in his age at 29 and you will likely cut out half the league as interested teams because they are too far away from title contention to justify paying a high cost for Gobert. So only playoff type teams. And most of those teams have little they are willing to part with so that 15 teams or so will whittle down further quite quickly.

If you can't get a star back for Gobert, what do you hope for?

Maybe a young up and coming guy with star potential or a high draft pick. Many playoff teams don't have much if any of either of those things. Utah may have to settle for something less.

In that scenario, a package based around Rob Williams as a young starting caliber player & a bunch of picks would be pretty attractive. The Jays get a 3rd star to play alongside them who doesn't require the ball to be effective.

Gobert - Tatum - Jaylen would be a strong trio to build a title team around.

How could Simmons play with Gobert?

Neither guy can make a shot outside of 10 feet. The spacing would be terrible. The offense would be terrible.

Agreed on it being great for Philly.

Horford and Rob works financially for Gobert.  Other players can be added in. Add three 1st rounders and I think that trade makes sense.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Valid - but they'd also hold opposition to 80 points a night.

Either way, and hypothetically speaking, Simmons is a much stronger return then lets Richardson and Smart

The league might step in if Ainge traded Utah's best player to Boston.

Sigh, where's Kevin McHale when you need him?

Think I'll take Gobert in the trade. But will need Brown involved in the package to start

I don't see any way Utah parts with Mitchell any time soon. He's signed through 24-25 and he's awesome. The only way they part with him is if he demands out. I give the odds of that happening at about the same odds as Tatum or Brown doing the same.

If Mitchell demanded out, this would be spectacular if we could thread the needle with these two big trades:

Trade 1
BOS In: Donovan Mitchell
UTA In: Brown, Schröder, Freedom, however many picks/swaps it takes

Trade 2
BOS In: Davion Mitchell, Barnes
SAC In: Smart, Langford, Nesmith, one or two second-round picks

New nine-man rotation with some epic balance (perhaps we try to keep Schröder for a title run this year? Then again, Jazz are gonna wanna replenish losing Donovan with the firepower of Brown and Schröder, so would rather keep our outbound picks to a minimum by sending Schröder)

Davion Mitchell/Pritchard
Donovan Mitchell/Richardson
Tatum/Richardson
Barnes/G. Williams
Timelord/Horford

The goal come off-season is landing a backup PG. I really think the above could win it all THIS year if Tatum and Donovan click.

Do it in a second!
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

I woud not give philly smart and richardson for simmons unless we got multiple picks back in the deal. I guess I disagree on your statement.  Simmons is such a flawed player.
