Off the top of my head I can't think of an offer that would make me do it.   

I'm a strong believer that the only way Simmons can excel on a team is if he plays the Center position, where his lack of outside shooting becomes less of a liability and where you can still put his rebounding, athelticism, playmaking, and defensive versatility to good use.

Problem is that if you were to do this you'd need to trade Rob Williams, as you could never have Rob and Ben on the court at the same time, and he's become too good/valuable to bring off the bench. 

so at this point you're now talking about giving up Jaylen Brown AND Rob Williams in order to bring in Simmons - and I think that is a pretty clear step in the wrong direction. 

A package built around something like Marcus Smart + Rob Williams + Romeo Langford for Simmons is something that I would consider if the salaries could be made to match up, but I'm not sure the Sixers would be interested.  Even if they are, it's a deal I find interesting but not necessarily one I would be overly excited about.

And It would be contingent on Simmons' willingness to give up on the idea that he's a PG.

No, I would not trade Simmons for Brown.  I'm in the JKJB camp unless we're talking about a select few like Fox, KAT, and the like.

Yes he had issues with shooting but this is a guy who averaged 16/8/8 and noticeably changed the game in all facets.

The most noticeable being his inability/refusal to take the simplest of shots in pressure situations of the playoffs.

I’m not discounting the fact that he’s a very good player, but he’s also a very flawed player on a max contract

I said I would consider a Brown/Schroder for Simmons/Maxey/1st package in a thread yesterday. But I maybe convinced to do the deal without the 1st. Really depends on what PHI thinks of Brown compared to Simmons. Obviously they have interest.

But I am not desperate to trade Brown at all - would only do deals that would raise the ceiling of our team, which I believe this would.

The Sixers have done an excellent job ruining their 2nd best asset. So he had a rough ending to a playoff series last season - it happens to everybody. If they had just traded him after Doc and Embiid went after him and he was tearing it up for a different team, nobody would think anything of it. Simmons hasn't handled this well at all, but PHI holding him hostage - especially to this point - is super bizarre. I can't believe they are likely going to hang on to him until the offseason. What a way to sabotage the middle of Embiid's prime.

I think we overrate Jaylen. I love him as a player and as a person and think he will continue to refine his game. But the operative word here is “refine.” He is not going to become a playmaker. He will have outlier games where he gets double-digit assists but the difference between the PG/Kawhi comparisons for our star wings is that Jaylen is not a playmaker. He’s more Middleton than George or Butler. Maybe a better Middleton but he is not currently a perennial all-star.

Simmons is. He’s a DPOY contender and could have won it last season. I think he finished second. He’s an all-NBA level talent. Jaylen isn’t.

That said, the FT% is trouble. I don’t care about 3s but would like him to be able to hit a passable FT% in the playoffs.

I’ll conclude by saying that this franchise has had an all-nba level PG who was hardheaded, couldn’t shoot, and brilliant when he was dialed in. Rondo did just fine here.

When you say "issues with shooting" -- do you mean like when he passed out of a dunk in the 4th Q of a tight playoff game because he was nervous he might... ya know.... miss it? Like those kinda issues?

And then Enbiid was a meany pants to him and he didn't like it so he took his $38MM ball and went home for a year

When you’re playing a good team that can game plan for him he’s not a star anymore. We had Philly’s number in the playoffs and Simmons had a lot to do with it. Just don’t let him score in transition- build a wall - and their offense is in trouble.

That he has refused to grow his game and doesn’t seem to care about losing this year doesn’t make me think he’s ready to play well in the spotlight. We should JKJB, but if you are absolutely determined to trade him can we get a guy who plays big in playoff games and isn’t one-dimensional on offense?

Simmons did not play in the 2020 playoffs, he was injured.

In 2018 he was 16/9+/7+, and in 2019 he was 14/7/6 with excellent defense and second-round exits in both cases.

In the lone Boston series, he laid a real egg in one game — 1/5/7. In the other 4 games he averaged around 18/9/6.

I think we have hyper-focused on his meltdown against Atlanta and have thus ignored the rest of his resume, which is that if an all-nba, all-defense playmaker who is a gifted passer and in the fast break.

Look I’m not clamoring for a Brown-Simmons trade but I’m not gonna just ignore that or claim that Jaylen is obviously the better player. It’s swung too far in the other direction.
