While the Raptors continue discussing Goran Dragic trade scenarios, Toronto has phoned rival teams gauging what Dragic and a first-round pick could bring back north of the border, sources told B/R. That framework was brought up in Myles Turner negotiations before he suffered a stress fracture in his foot. As the Raptors are searching for frontcourt help, Robert Williams has also been mentioned of late as a name on Toronto’s list of big-man targets.  – via Jake Fischer @ Bleacher Report

An offer of Dragic + #1 obviously wouldn't get it done.

No, it wouldn’t.  It would take Siakam or Anunoby in my opinion.

The team appears to be deflecting interest in Rob Williams as he has hit his stride in the middle of the season, but he’s always going to be a potential foundation piece for the search for a third star.

I'd want to talk about FVV if I'm seriously entertaining the idea of trading Rob to Toronto.

I'd also consider a deal based on Barnes.  probably untouchable for Toronto but if they're asking about an untouchable here, let's ask about theirs

Yeah, pretty much that.  Rob's under contract for four years after this on pretty nice terms.  Even if the C's went for a full teardown there's no reason to trade him, so a pick isn't going to get it done.

That's nice for Toronto. It's not going to happen, but at least they have good taste.

seems like a lot of teams are hoping the Celts will hit the reset button

An offer of Dragic + #1 is good enough for a good starting caliber that a team wants to get rid of (clear cap space, enter rebuild, clear way for a better younger player, whatever other reasons).

An offer of Dragic + #1 is not good enough to get such a player when the team wants to keep said player as is the case with Timelord here.

I like the Myles Turner idea. That was a workable deal. If I were Toronto, I'd do that deal and get him there for next season. That pushes Toronto up into that second tier of teams below only title contenders. That is a good upgrade for them and leaves them well positioned for another future leap whether it is internal development of Scottie Barnes or a trade for a bigger star either based around Barnes or a consolidating move with their other forwards.

There’s a lot of talent here.  You’re not doing your job as a GM if you haven’t called and checked in case they go that way.

That could be a fall back plan and are taking time to see if they can add a similar level player for this season as well.

No way the Celtics do this.

sure, it's just interesting that it seems like there are a bunch of reports coming out right now that other teams are sniffing around the Celts trying to trade for any of the current Celtics who are actually productive

There are so many teams looking to make moves to add pieces this year.  The C’s could acquire an incredible amount of young talent and picks if they did hit reset this week.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Toronto has a number of pieces that I would consider trading TL for (Siakam, Barnes, FVV, OG), but Dragic isn't one of them. If they want Horford for the same package, then we can probably get something done.

Surprised not to see Gary Tent Jr mentioned yet. Over the past 2 seasons he's shooting 39% on 8 3's a game. He has much better defense then most "shooters". He just turned 23. He fits into our exception.

Thoughts on something based around Williams for Trent, Achiuwa
