I seriously wonder if its part of a three-team trade that would use Beasley and the first as part of a trade for Beal. Smart doesn't make any sense for Washington, but Beasley does. He's on a good contract, proved last year he could average 20 ppg, and still has some room to grow. For a bottom-feeder, that allows the team to keep fans interested in a way that Smart's offense wouldn't.

In other words, Smart helps a team vying for the playoffs, not a team that's rebuilding. Beasley helps a team that's rebuilding.

If the Wizards got the following for Beal, would they consider it?

1. A 20 ppg scorer at Beal's position to replace him
2. Get out of Bertans' contract
3. Unprotected first from Minny and an additional first from Boston
4. 2 decent prospects

Celtics would trade Smart, Horford, Nesmith, Langford (or Pritchard), and a first
for
Beal and Bertans

I think that's a reasonable trade package for Beal (i know people will disagree). The real question is whether or not the Sixers would offer Ben Simmons for Beal, because that would definitely trump that offer.
we definitely get the best player in the deal with Beal but taking on Bertans as well for Smart, more salary relief in Al's contract, 2 prospects and another first is a bit much to give up.  keep a prospect or the pick and it gets a bit more even.  also have to have assurances from Beal he'll resign with the C's instead of hitting free agency.

Not sure if its been shared but here is the rumored asking price for Smart to Minny:
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/nba-trade-rumors-celtics-asking-184322944.html

"Unless (the Wolves) include a first-round pick or Jaden McDaniels in addition to Malik Beasley, (a deal) most likely doesn’t get done," Wolfson said on Skor North's "Mackey & Judd" podcast.

They can look all they want,   I would not trade Beasley for Smart.

Now Smart, Richardson and Nesmith for Vanderbuilt and D'Angelo Russell  and a 2nd, might get my attention if D'Angelo has matured.  If he has not I'd pass.  I would hate to see Richardson and Smart go.     This is a countertrade you would propose so they say "no"

Welcome back, haven't seen you post in long while.

Thanks

I'd do: Edwards and McDaniels for Smart. Maybe even throw in a pick.  :)

Marcus Smart means too much to the Celtics and the return package for him, I don’t think, will yield enough value to warrant getting rid of Marcus. It would have to be a deal that includes Marcus and other pieces with a return of a max all star talent.

Marcus would be a great rebuilding piece for us should we be unable to execute the third leg of the stool.

I just don’t see him being traded unless a godfather offer comes at us.

TP.  I completely agree.  Marcus is more available to the cs then elsewhere.  Unless your getting a John Collins, Wiseman, Kuminga, Haliburton, Fox, unprotected 1st from a team in the lottery etc trading smart makes this team worse.  The cs don't need to move him.  They can dump Schroeder and get under the tax.  There aren't any PGs to replace smart with that are available.  If smart gets moved I can see it being done in the off-season when the cs can trade for his replacement.

I now feel that Jaylen Brown is more likely to be traded than Marcus Smart.  Not that Smart is better, obviously that's ridiculous. But because Brown's trade value is so high, and the fear that he could walk, or make a trade request early.

Is that a rational fear though? It seems more like fan angst and triggered media articles have fostered that outlook. I haven’t seen any indications that Jaylen is unhappy or would want out and not honor his contract.

I don’t really understand the Timberwolves & Marcus Smart trade rumours.

A current Timberwolves pick would only be a mid-late first round selection. Malik Beasley is a very good player but he’s playing a position we aren’t really lacking and let’s not forget he recently got out of jail.

If the Celtics allow Smart to join the Timberwolves, it only strengthens their teams push to keep Karl-Anthony Towns long term…someone the Celtics have been keen on for some time.

Unless this is a chess like move by Stevens, I am perplexed how this would be valid insider news.

I checked the TWolves Reddit page and they were basically a consensus yes on Beasley/1st for Smart, but a consensus no on Beasley/Jaden for Smart. I found this interesting as people generally overrate draft picks. Is Jaden McDaniels really that good of a prospect? I guess just add him to a long list of names we missed out on in the 2020 draft.

We trade our starting PG for an SG off the bench? Hmm… if C’s do this, we’re really gonna have to trust our FO that they know what they’re doing. C’s get a shooter, sure, but they become even more imbalanced than ever

NBADraft.net compared him to Jonathan Isaac coming out in the draft.  I haven't seen him play but he's a PF.  Not sure what his upside is

Irony is that McDaniels was so soft at Washington in college. He avoided contact, played soft defense, and constantly pulled up instead of going to the hoop. His efficiency was bad because of it. That was a typical nbadraft body-type comparison that had little basis in his actual on-court play.

However, under the coaching in Minny, he developed into a pretty tough-nosed defensive wing with a lot of switchability. Isaac is more of a big defender with switchability.

Jaden is more MPJ than Isaac. Has lots of moves streaky shooting. Decent mobility.

I'm not sure if this has been posted, and it just feeds the fire of "anybody can be a source", but:
