Just 18 points away now. So he should break the record in his next game. He has played 182 less games than Kareem at this point, so much faster in that regard.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Keep in mind Lebron has the edge of coming straight from high school against these guys.  Most people back in the day played all four years of college, or at least til they were upper classmen.

Lebron has a 3-4 year head start on these guys while still in his prime.

26 points so Lebron is the all time leader in combined points in the history of the game.  If he somehow maintained his current rate of scoring he would pass Kareem for the regular season list towards the end of next season.

How many more times are you going to bump this thread? It is a Celtics blog and this isn’t even a real record. Its crossed into be obnoxious and I’m not seeing this on liberty ballers, the dream shake or other team blogs not associated with Lebron. Why do we have to put up with this Lebron worship here?

There is an unbelievable amount of threads that have far less to do with the Boston Celtics (a basketball team) than this one (a thread about a basketball event). Stop looking for every single opportunity to have annoying, derailing arguments over minutiae with Moranis

Gouki, I’ll say one thing to defend myself here, and I’m not going to say anything else out about it cause i respect the blog and the rules. I’m on here every day. We don’t have threads bumped repeatedly when curry is approaching the three point record and then when he ties it and then when he beats it.m (and that was actual national news story they stopped the game for). This story was not even mentioned in the recap for the game on espn. I obviously disagree with Moranis on a lot of topics, but we also have a lot of great civil conversations (we have an extended 50 page one on the conferences that is 99.9 sophisticated and respectful dialogue) and I do respect him. I think my point on this topic was fair based on all the posts on this blog and more specifically the forum rules on bumping your own threads (and I made this post after the third or fourth time it was bumped by the op). I also know for a fact I’m not the only person annoyed having a pseudo record jammed down our throats by repeated bumps. This response seems pretty random and fairly over the top.

Comparing this blog to any of the other blogs is dumb.  There is gun control, police shooting, and presidential debate threads constantly being bumped here, but someone’s posting a discussion about a basketball record being broken by a non Celtic and your head explodes  I’m annoyed by the constant hype of Lebron as well but you’re the only one being way over the top.

People seem to be going out of there way to cast some shade on LeBron's accomplishment.  I don't really like LeBron either, although I am not as down on him right now as I was back in "The Decision" era.  LeBron is a great player.  In the discussion for the best of all time.  Good for him.

It is interesting that people are referencing the 3pt shot relative to Kareem's scoring.  I actually think Kareem would have scored less.  Without the 3, forcing it inside was a better play.  Kareem would likely have gotten less attempts and less points if the 3 had been in the game his entire career.

As to who is better, Michael, LeBron, Magic, etc., take your pick.  Magic Johnson had his career cut short.  Magic may have been the best ever.  Kind of more like Bill Russell in that he would sacrifice his game to win.  LeBron has been dominant for a long time.  He is one of the greatest.  I am happy to congratulate him for that.  Save the NBA GOAT debate for another time.

If he somehow maintained his current rate of scoring he would pass Kareem for the regular season list towards the end of next season.

In theory he’s got 25 games this season and then 82 next year?  And he’s 1861 behind?  Next year seems almost definite.

Yeah.  He obviously is going to miss games and I doubt he maintains 29 + ppg next year, but it does seem like at some point next year he will pass Kareem for the regular season total.  He passed Jordan in the post season a few seasons back, now has combined, so only needs the regular season to be the greatest scorer in the sport's history.

He choked on a foul shout last night and cost his team the game.     He has ruined another team with meddling with the front office and will probably have a choke fest sometimes in the near future.

He'll break the record, but never catch Jordan's championships.   We all know he'll never catch Russell.
