I have seen similar versions of this floating around out there.  I think giving up both Brown and Smart is way too much.  This could be modified to make it more potentially real as follows:

Brown and Hernangomez
for
Collins, Hueter, Reddish

This seems more fair to me but maybe ATL doesn't do it.  Brown is more value than Collins so we ask ATL to take on JHern and give us a couple unspectacular but useful players in return to help balance out the value.

I am not saying I would do this.  I have not given up on Brown yet.  Collins is a true PF which would be nice alongside Tatum but we would be giving up the best player by a fair margin which generally does not work out.  We restock with younger players.

Brown and Trae Young would be great together and ATL still would have enough to put around them.  Not sure I feel the same about Tatum and Collins.  It would be a nice young duo but I don't think we end up better.

I just saw a Simmons for Collins and Reddish story.  Not sure of the reliability of the source, just happen to see it on line.

I'm not so sure Boston doesn't do that trade.  It is definitely intriguing.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

While I would consider this trade "fair" value-wise, I wouldn't do it for the Celtics as Jaylen is the best player in the deal and, while Huerter and Reddish look like they are / will be solid rotation wings, that's not enough to entice me to move off Jaylen.

Certainly. But Huerter has a Poison Pill contract, so I don't think the numbers work in this deal.

Collins can be traded before the deadline.  He signed with Bird rights so is eligible Jan 15th.  Huerter could be absorbed via the Fournier TPE, so poison pill wouldn’t matter.  The rest of the numbers work out too (C’s would even get a new TPE equal to Smart’s contract).

I already corrected the part about Collins. Thanks.

The Hawks would need to have a REALLY high opinion of both Brown and Smart to entertain this. Regardless, it doesn't matter -- Stevens isnt trading Brown in his first season as GM.

Two thoughts.

If those 4 and Cappella can't win with Trae why would those 4 and TL win with Tatum especially since none can create offense for themselves very well.

Also, if I'm trading Brown I want at least one guy in return with big upside and after watch Atlanta a bunch the past two years none of those guys got that upside. Collins is a tease. I'd rather see us send brown for Haliburton and Bagley (w Hield or Barnes). I like those guys upside vs anyone named from Atlanta

You need elite players to win a championship. Trading away an Allstar for inferior players puts the C’s farther away from that goal.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Doesn't this just turn us into the Atlanta Hawks?

As a general rule 1 dollar for four quarter trades don't work out well for teams giving up the dollar.

I pretty much agree with this, and so in general I think that if you're trading away Brown for a non All-Star, I think you're also talking about trading Tatum too and starting over.  At the same time, Cam Reddish puts up a few nights a month where he looks like a future All-Star, and if he can put it together consistently (and I get that "if" is doing a lot of work in this statement), he could be an All-Star in a couple of seasons.  And Reddish isn't even the top prize in the deal -- that's John Collins and Kevin Huerter.

It's a neat concept, and I could see either side saying yes or no.  I do think the C's defense could be in real danger of tanking, losing two of our best three defenders, and the biggest risk the C's face is contract uncertainty, with Reddish and Hunter due extensions next season in advance of what could be a crazy free agency summer.  Celtics would also have even more need of finding a PG in the summer.  It's one of the few proposals I've seen where I like every player coming in and going out, and can see plusses and minuses for both teams.  TP to the OP for creativity.

The Hawks with Tatum instead of Trae Young, but yes you can make that argument.  Of course, the Hawks went to the Finals last year, so there's two sides to that thought.

To me this deal is more like giving up a dollar for three 50-cent pieces (not that we'd get 50% more value back than giving out, but I do think the C's would win the total value column while the Hawks would win in value per player.)

I agree interesting. I think I would pull that trigger if the C's remain a .500 team.
