What would be a reasonable return if value? Going off recent trades of All Star (Jaylen Brown) and above average All Star (Jayson Tatum), here are the anticipated returns we could fetch:

Can we expect similar value as the below trade for Jaylen Brown?

LAC received: George

OKC received: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Danilo Gallinari, three unprotected 1st-round Draft picks, a protected 1st-round pick and two 1st-round pick swaps.

I think you could argue that Jaylen is slightly below Paul George’s value (I would argue that he is equivalent given health and age).

Can we expect similar value as the below trade for Jayson Tatum?

The Brooklyn Nets have acquired six-time All-NBA First Team guard James Harden from the Houston Rockets as part of a three-team trade that includes the Cleveland Cavaliers. As part of the trade, Brooklyn sends center Jarrett Allen and forward Taurean Prince to Cleveland, and guard Caris LeVert and forward Rodions Kurucs, as well as three first round draft picks (2022, 2024 and 2026) and four first round pick swaps (2021, 2023, 2025 and 2027) to Houston. The Rockets also receive guard Dante Exum and a 2022 first round draft pick from Cleveland (via Milwaukee), and Brooklyn acquires a 2024 second round draft pick from the Cavaliers to complete the deal.

James Harden of course was more of a superstar at the time than Tatum is currently.

So why are we holding onto these guys when we could have this approach to rebuilding? I’m ready for a full blow-up?

Hang on, so those people together are supposedly better for us than the Jays?

Are you really envying Houston and OKC right now?  Years of terrible basketball, followed by no likelihood of a title?

I would argue the collection of resources and years to build a team would surely supersede our current performance and trajectory.

How can you propose a Tatum trade after what he did last night? It may have been the best game of his career! Anybody can catch fire on a given night and hit ridiculous shots. I mean, look no further than Fournier. What Tatum did was far more impressive. Instead of forcing his own shots, he was always making the right reads! I bet we've all been wondering whether Tatum can become a top 10 player. What we saw last night was a potential top 5 player in my book. All he needs going forward is consistency (easier said than done, obviously).

And let’s not forget the most important thing - the guy is 23 and will only get better.

These kinds of deals are made for those in their very late 20’s/early 30’s, not their fifth year in the league.

Wouldn't we be looking to trade all those assets for a pair of young all-stars as good as Tatum and Brown?

so, this thread offically demonstrartes that CS is in complete over reaction mode now?
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Remember the Bucks. For years they had Giannis and and Middleton looking good but not quite there yet. In 2018 they got coach Mike and revamped the supporting rosters with players who can shoot 3s.

The Celtics roster does not fit the way they play relying on the 3s. Even JT shoots like 33% from the 3s this season though I suspect it is because of the heavier load that he carries. It is such a poor roster management.

We need to keep the 2 Jays + the 2 Williams. The rest should be shipped to get suporting cast who can really shoot 3s. We dont need Smart type of players who is good defensively but can't shoot. We need 3 point  shooters.

We also need a 3rd veteran player to assume the alpha role for the team. I just dont see the 2 Jays as a strong leader yet who lead by example. A simple maturity issue. But they'll get there, that is why I propose to keep them.

I don’t understand how this take is an overreaction at all? With the two above leading our team for a full season, we went .500 and snagged a 7th seed last year. This year, we are 3 games below .500 and going in the wrong direction (very clearly).

“Getting rid of” both our all stars would be just foolish. If you’re the C’s you don’t want to reset. You want to properly “build around” because if your best player is 23, you’ve already practically reset.

I would cash in on JB and our other players to land an older all star and better fitting parts. It’s not that JB isn’t good. It’s because he’s very good that we can restock our team with good players who can enhance JT and vice versa

You don't do a total rebuild unless you're forced to. There are no guarantees that you won't be looking at several years of sucking and in a city like Boston that just won't fly. The thing is, all it would take is for Tatum to say 'I want out' and we'll in fact be looking at a total rebuild.

The premise of the trades is the problem with the question. You cannot compare Brown to George or Tatum to Harden. They are worth way more due to their age and contracts. Tatums trade value alone is likely top 10. Top 10 “assets” (player’s value, not skill) rarely get traded unless the team is being forced. This is why the answer to the question is “won’t happen.”

Also as an aside, contribution to sales, completely unrelated to anything basketball, is a portion of value (Zion, LeBron still).

After tonight, I’m fully in agreement. Move them all for prospects on rookie contracts and picks. Literally everyone except Timelord and Grant Williams because Grant’s cheap, keeps getting better and may be a solid starter who’s a team player with toughness someday. Grant oozes Celtic Pride. Nobody else on this roster does, which is utterly disappointing (maybe Timelord gets there), and am so sick of being on the treadmill with no hope of a future title, let alone a future dynasty. JT/JB are just two soft Carmelos who have no interest in team ball, let alone Celtic Pride. Let’s trade them for a rebuild before everyone else figures out there’s two Carmelos in the house. .
