This thread was wrongly bumped, but Ime has cost us this game and potentially our season with one of the worst elimination game coaching performances I have simply ever seen.

How he left smart in that long is beyond me.
Just terrible. Smart has been rubbish since he came back from the ankle and yet in he stays. Just effing garbage.

It wasn’t just leaving him in, Ime continued to let Smart Guard Butler throughout the game and he was getting burned almost every time. Butler finished with 47. Maybe put a bigger defender on him? Maybe double and make Butler give up the ball. Unbelievably stupid coaching all game long.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Ime failed to adjust this game.  The reason Tatum had limited shots was because they were blitzing him.  We should have done that on Butler eventually, but we stuck with constant switching and allowing Butler to get matchups he wanted.

Coached a good game 5, failed in game 6.

Timelord gave Butler absolute fits whenever he was near him - so naturally Ime buries TL and lets Smart get cooked by him all night. Just garbage

Spolestra has Butler and a bunch of role players and he still out foxes Udoka. He definitely was playing chess tonight and Ime was trying to read through the instructions on how to play checkers.

The one guy that you have to limit goes off for 47. Zero double teams, didn’t deny him the ball. Let Smart get burned over and over again. All Ime had to do is look at what Spolestra was doing to Tatum and apply the same strategy to Butler and he couldn’t even do that. Completely deflating…

Whoever is in charge of player development in Miami needs a raise

Is it even player development, though?

Butler was a FA signing as was Lowry, Tucker, Oladipo, Martin. The C’s had Strus and waived him before he caught on with Miami. Bam was  #14 overall pick the year he was drafted, not exactly a diamond in the ruff.  So really they developed Duncan who is being benched and Vincent who is a decent 7-8 man.

Adebayo, Martin, Strus, Robinson, Herro and Vincent have all had atypical development arcs. Nobody thought Bam would be this good, even when he was drafted when he was. Marin has never been this good. I don't think anyone foresaw Herro being a 20/5/5 guy either.

Smartacus isn't 100%. I really think he should sit if he's not 100%. Jared Weiss of the Athletic noted some crucial coverage mistakes involving Smartacus:

Quote
As the night went on, there were some bizarre coverage mistakes. In the early first quarter, Marcus Smart jumped above a screen to ice a Lowry high pick-and-roll down toward Rob Williams, who was just sitting behind the other side of the screen thinking he was in drop coverage. The Celtics don’t run ice coverage anymore, so the rest of the defense watched Lowry just waltz to the rim in slow motion out of sheer confusion.

Then late in the game with two minutes left and the score tied, Boston made another crucial error in a battle against an inevitably triumphant Butler by having White hard show over the screen to reroute Butler, but then Butler’s man Smart didn’t slide under the screen to make it work. Horford got into position for verticality, but Butler was flying so fast that Horford caught his arm for a three-point play to give Miami the lead it would hold until the buzzer.

“Just mixing up coverages,” White said explaining the error. “Obviously, we’ve got to do a better job. That was a big play for him,” White said. “That’s just who he’s been his whole career, constantly attacking and doing what he does to help his team win. We knew it was coming, and we’ve got to do a better job in Game 7.”

Smartacus is the heart and soul of this team but he's not doing them any favors if he's not at his best.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

This was my absolute issue with Ime.

Baffling that Timelord scores and saved the Cs in the third qtr and got zero minutes in the 4th qtr in  favor of going small and have Al the Center who tbh wasnt feelin it the whole night.

absolute thrashy decisions by Ime cost us the game.

Wasn't RW in the locker room in the 4th?  Don't think it was just a decision not to play him.

Timelord was at the scorers desk, ready to check back in at the 5.5 min mark in the 4th, Al hit a 3 and Ime had Rob sit back down on the bench where he remained for the rest of the night. The coach cost the C’s that game.

You don't just sit someone you intend on bringing in back down after your teammate makes a 3. You continue subbing them in at the next dead ball. Just dumb coaching.

The Team has made great strides but is still flawed
That is not a Coaching problem it’s a Roster issue

Biggest Problem is Smart running the point and taking 15 shots
Smart is a defensive 6th man type player
That’s why it is crucial Stevens finds a legit veteran point guard next season

Again, you need a 3rd Shooter to take the pressure off Brown Tatum
